Guest guest
Debbie, You mentioned in march that you had friend who was creating a website that discusses toys and play skills for parents (see below). I am interested in the website...could you please post it and/or email me directly. Thanks. Wanda Re: [ ] Re: A step back It is true that sometimes a step back is needed. I am a therapist and often we see things that may or may not be there due to experience. Sometimes waiting is good to see if suspicions are warranted. Many children have been diagnosed as autistic because of quirky behaviors and the real culprits were not autistic related issues but rather emotional issues that if not nurtured will result in a lifetime of depression and lonliness leading again to alcohol and drugs during adolescence. Take a step back but be smart. Just because one diagnosis may be incorrect the fact is that something is probably causing the abnormal behavior or abnormal physical/neurological development. Be smart and explore alternatives as you will probably be helping many issues simultaneously. It won't hurt and will probably help. Labels are not needed at such a young age unless it is a known physical or mental impairment. Play therapy is the answer for our young ones. They are treated like children having fun while at the same time engaging in cognitive, physical, and language development. Toys are not just toys. They are tools if the right ones are used and bought for the individual just as an IEP is written in the schools for individuals. I know another therapist who will be launching an interactive web site where she will sell toys at a discount and also speak to her customers about the best toys for their individual children all based on their specific needs. Other therapists will be answering questions for her. The toys are going to be mostly toys that you cannot find in the stores and are used by therapists. Some of them will be found elsewhere but she will only choose those that are of learning value to special children as well as those who are typical. If anyone is interested in the website address I will get it from her and pass it along. Debbie
