Guest guest
Hi all, I thought PLS-Friends was created as sort of an " anything goes " group. PLS-ers News was created for " only PLS related, or disease related emails " . I don't think we should have to censure our thoughts, feelings, or our beliefs before we post them. If someone is going to get upset and angry over someone else's posting of an opinion, I think they're just looking for a reason to get upset. It's kind of like " shooting the messenger " . I don't think I am either disrespectful or ignorant for daring to post my religious or political stance on an issue. Some of those issues pertain to our diseases when you really think about it. I am an American, and have that right. I don't care if someone disagrees with my beliefs either.........they also have that right. Nor do I mind if those opinions are posted on this medium. Sometimes, it's kind of a nice diversion from the " norm of PLS talk " , and refreshing to meet other people with completely different opinions and beliefs than my own. Let's just not let it create tension, friction, arguments, nor reason for anyone leaving the group. That's a silly reason to leave the group that has meant so much to so many over these last few years. Now that I have expressed my humble opinion, I am going to duck and quickly take cover. Fire away..........won't bother me a bit, because I love you all, and you all have " saved me " from insanity these last 4 years. Laurel Re: Re: Evangelical Messages You can wave the flag and claim free speech all you like but there are two topics that are taboo everywhere except in the right situation - religion and politics. PLS-FRIENDS certainly isn't the right situation! (Actually, PLS-FRIENDS has a third taboo topic and that is Dr. Prahl but I won't open that Pandora's box again.) So many people have such strong and opposing views on these topics that any discussion involving them will soon dissolve into bunfights and take us away from what PLS-FRIENDS is all about. They start wars. Anybody who thinks they should be allowed to put their point of view across on those topics because their point of view is right is only showing their ignorance and their total disregard of others. Keep politics and religion (and Dr Prahl) out of PLS-FRIENDS and let's get back to supporting one another. rosestone3 wrote: > Rita I know you have been blamed for a lot of stuff. Guest guest
Jeannie-You are very right!!! It is good to be open minded and learn a new thing. And I do love looking up verses in the Bible or hearing an inspirational quote. But when peoples' emotions are flaring I feel the best is to lay the subject at rest until everyone can think rationally. BUT you are right one can delete!!! Thanks! Guest guest
It seems as if everyone who has responded has done so along the same theme .... " I don't mind what anyone posts. " I suspect that is true for most however, we must consider this. If we are indeed a loving, supportive, caring community, if even one person finds those religious posts troublesome, hurtful, or disturbing, *why* would you post them? Would you go to a dear friend's home and speak of things you know he/she would find hurtful? I suspect not. So why would you continue to post things that many people here have told you are hurtful and offensive? Can't you just hear what they are saying and out of respect for them, stop? I just don't get it.

Guest guest
I've seen some of the Friends use OT on their subject line to stand for Other Topic, so that will tell you right away that it's not about PLS. And if we are a little more specific on our subject lines, we might save some anger by just ignoring posts that you know you won't be interested in the subject. I personally don't read every single item that's posted (otherwise I'd never be able to keep up!). I think religion and politics will pop up from time to time. So what. It will eventually blend out of the topics in time. We all know the purpose of this website but we are all individuals. If someone brings up a topic that I don't care for, I'll probably just not read it. But don't let me stop you all from reading it. Maureen > Jeannie-You are very right!!! Guest guest
I don't think anyone here would knowingly post something hurtful. I don't see much satire, I don't see much irony. I doubt that anyone is planning to take over the government. Anyway, were someone plotting something it would be nice if they would post their plans here. I know religion and politics are real hot buttons for some folks but it is real hard to draw a line when healing and medicine are involved. Like I say, I'd pray to the Wood Nymph too (actually I wouldn't) if I thought it would help with PLS. By the same token, if you went to someone's house and the whole household was worshiping Zeus or someone, would you have the right to be offended? It's a two way street. Where there isn't a clear line, we have to make up the difference in not taking offence. All sides have to do that. >It seems as if everyone who has responded has done so along the same >theme .... Guest guest
> I don't think anyone here would knowingly post something hurtful. But they *are*. Whether you think it's hurtful or not, people here have said repeatedly that the religious postings are offensive and hurtful. I haven't heard any complaints about the " I'll pray for you " comments or discussions about how faith has helped a person but still, there have been many opinions voiced as to how the evangelical nature of the posts is hurtful. > By the same token, if you went to someone's house and the whole household > was worshiping Zeus or someone, would you have the right to be offended? > It's a two way street. I don't understand the logic of this question, but I'll try to answer. If I was invited to someone's house with the clear understanding that I was invited to worship Zeus with them or to celebrate Zeus somehow, I would clearly know the purpose and choose not to go or choose to go, whatever my decision. The point is, the intent is clear. If I was invited for a Tupperware party and I got there and they openly tried to talk me into worshiping Zeus, I would feel deceived, and yes, offended. My point is this is not a list for religion, it's a list for PLS and the bottom line is this is about respect. If even one person is offended, the religious discussions just shouldn't happen. Guest guest
l you are right. The stem cell is a political issue that we discuss. I enjoy hearing about the political side, especially when it pertains to research and cure. I respect your thoughts, Donna > > > Rita I know you have been blamed for a lot of stuff.
