Hi ...Yes this is why I could not take prednisone on a

preventative/larger dose basis - I felt I would react to the prednisone

....it seemed to irritate me, too harsh for my system to handle...However, it

has helped me a lot when I take small doses (about 5 mg) on an as needed

basis - then it simply slows/stops the swelling without causing more

problems...

How much are you on? If it is making things worse, could you re-consult with

your MD ( if he says " stick it out " you may want to get some more

advice/alternatives) - Why should you do this for two weeks if it is making

things worse for you???? .....Tree

Hi, . I had the same thing happen when I first went on pred. They kept upping the dose until I was clear; ended up on 100mg /day. Also found that when I went on a taper, the hives would get worse and worse as I tapered off, worse than they were before I started a taper.

Air hugs,

Jackie

Has anyone ever seen an increase in hives with prednisone? Does anyone know why this would happen? I went on it and will be on it for 2 weeks and after day 2 noticed this am, I am very itchy on my feet and arms and hands and having hives. I shouldn't have any with this supposeded added boost?

Thanks for all your help.

Thanks, Jackie. I hope this isn't going to happen to me. I will wait

a couple of days and if it continues, I am going to taper off early

rather than going the whole 7 days at 40mg. I guess I might have to

up my dose of Doxepin to get things back under control. Great, I will

be asleep at work. Wonderful! Maybe something else is going on. I am

still having pains in my right side. I had a UTI and that was

supposedly cleared, but pain continued and had Ultrasound of kidneys

and stomach and they were fine. Figured it was nothing so I have let

it go for 2 weeks, but it continued and it is getting worse and pain

radiating into my butt, so when I sit for any length of time I start

getting numbness in my butt. Starting to make me a little nervous

about what could be causing this. Have appointment today with PCP,

but am seeing the PA instead of doctor. Maybe the PA will be more

useful and more proactive in finding out what my problem is on my

right side. So many darn problems after my pregnancy last year.

Tree, I am on 40mg/day for 7 days then taper off to zero. The theory

is to decrease the inflammation process in my body as hives are

believed to be an inflammation process. Theory is pred could knock

the hives back to where the antihistamines will start working

properly again. I did quiz him on taking the pred before I decided to

give it a try. He told me I " shouldn't " get worse when I go off of

it. Again, no definite, just like everything with this darn problem.

He is a good doctor and well respected by other doctors in the area.

I don't believe his has mislead me in anything in the short time I

have been dealing with him.

Thanks for your information.

Dear ...It is a good start to have a doctor who has been " straight "

with you. It does take an incredible amount of trial and error to get a

sense of where to go with this whole thing. The use you describe is

certainly an accepted approach and must work for some people!!!!! All we can

do is keep trying....Tree
