Ah, so Ben has some other medical issues. Are the seizures any part

of the speech delay?

Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) are just that; essential. Our body does

not produce them. We get these acids from the foods we eat. The

brain is 60% fat. Of this 60%, I believe 25% is composed of DHA (an

EFA). Our diets are pathetically low in DHA. To supplement our

diets with Omega 3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA), we can theoretically

feed the brain!

Please check out http://www.mercola.com Dr. Mercola's site has it's

own search engine. Plug " omega 3 fatty acids " in to the search

engine and tons of basic articles will pop up.

You can buy these supplements many places these days. GNC, food

coops, Target, on-line, health food stores... The type I use is

Nordic Naturals ProEFA. I buy it on-line from www.omega-

direct.com. What you are looking for is a QUALITY, purified

(certified toxin free) cold water fish source of Omega 3 fatty

acids.

Also, I am floored that they are offering Ben a speaking device

after trying speech therapy for 1/month over a year's time. My son,

Ian, was in therapy 2x/week for a year before his speech evolved.

He needed to learn a lot of prelanguage skills such as breath

control, truncal strength, pointing, etc before the speech came

out. Not that this device will harm him, but I think they need to

try a little harder!

Take care,

Pam
