Well the Prednisone will totlaly screw the cortisol testing! You need ot

be off it for at least 2 weeks before doing the cortisol end of it. To

get slaiva flowing I sniff sour things such as vinegar, dill pickles or

lemon juice.

I found this on the Diagnos-Techs site:

" *Be sure to drink plenty of water the day before collecting the

saliva samples; you can also hold a cut lemon under your nose to

stimulate salivation if you're having a challenging time producing

enough saliva to fill the tubes. "

I also found that if I kind of moved my mouth around so that I was

scraping the insides of my mouth with the sides of my teeth that it

helped produce a little more saliva. And, one of the reasons they tell

you to rinse your mouth with water is that it helps produce saliva also.

Also remember, that it is impossible (at least for me) to collect

saliva with out alot of foam. The point is that you need to make sure

that you get enough liquid and not all foam. This is gross, but I had

to just keep spitting in the tube and forcing the foam out of the top

until I could get enough liquid.

Yes, I waited to do mine between the 19th and 20th. In fact I missed this

month's so I have to wait until December to do my next one. You need to wait

at least two weeks after you stop your Pred before you can do the saliva

test or it will mess up your readings.

Rinse your mouth for a few minutes and make a chewing motion even with

nothing in your mouth. That helped me with saliva as I can get very dry

mouthed.
