Welcome to the group. I realize this is an emotional time for you. I want

to put in my two cents.

6.5 months is very very early to implant. The FDA recommends 12 months, but

some kids are getting it as young as 10 months. I have never heard of a six

month old getting one.

I would urge you to wait until he is one per the recommendations. Not only

will it go by fast, but you'll have the 4 - 5 months to just enjoy your

baby. There were some recent posts - before you joined - about one toddler

having an implant that extruded. It may have been due to infection, but also

may have been due to how young he was when implanted.

I also want to ask you why you think he is going to have developmental

delays because he is deaf. We have many parents on this list whose children

did not receive implants until they were 2 and older and some parents who

choose NOT to implant their child. Some of these kids, and one whose Mom

lives in my current county, are awesome students who score very high on

their SATs! Deafness does not mean your child will be further behind. Work

with him now...I would even suggest signing " milk " or " more " and I think he

will sign back to you. What you are doing is giving him expressive

language. An infant specialist should be coming to your home and showing

you how to keep him engaged.

Just love him, and everything else will fall into place.
