Guest guest
thank you for all your advice. People keep telling me that his speech will be delayed the longer we wait for the implant. That is why I am worried about delays. I realize that there are many successful deaf and implanted children and adults. I did not mean to offend anyone with my concerns. The other parents of implants that I have met keep telling me to push for the earliest implant available. I am so confused. I come from a family that has never had any issues with hard of hearing/deafness. Even the elderly did not need aiding. I am still trying to get my head around this. There are just so many opinions being thrown at us. Everywhere we turn someone is telling us it is child abuse to implant, the later we implant the harder his life will be. I don't know what to think anymore. All I want is a happy baby, whether he is hearing or not does not change how much we love him. Thank you for helping me realize that earlier does not always mean better. Maybe the delay in his surgery is a disguised blessing. Although we already have the biggest blessing of all, our son. Thank you for letting me know that speech delays and other delays are not always connected to the advancement of the child. I feel so much better. Thank you, thank you thank you. I can't say enough about how much better all your advice has made us feel. The Archers wrote: We started with just using the Signing Time videos. My oldest LOVES them. They are cute and helpful! Guest guest
We've used " Signing Times' videos with all the triplets (hearing or not) and I love it. It helps avoid some toddler frustration in not being able to communicate (not that we don't have melt-down moments!). We had a break-through the other day... one of the girls (21 mo old) actually wore her aids for 4+ hours before we took them out for naptime. Small step but a heap leap in my mind. I think having the parent/child educator coming every week (compliments of Early Intervention) has helped both of us with reinforcing the value of the aids.
