Guest guest
How often are you eating the Atkins Bars? There has been a lot of discussions about hidden cvarbs in them and that they can cause stalls. Perhaps you should stay away from them for a while and see what happens. Also, some bacon is sugar cured, check your brand. Hope this helps, Debra _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Guest guest
Have the bars been a part of your daily menu since you started back on induction? If they have been, it is probably just a normal fluctuation in the rate of weight loss. Many people don't lose consistently each week, but lose in fits and spurts with periods of maintaining followed by a nice WOOSH of loss. If the bars are something you added right before your weight loss slowed, it may be worthwhile eliminating them from your diet for a week or two and observing the results. Again, everybody's been so quick to say, " Ack! It's the bars! Get rid of the bars. " But it could in fact be perfectly normal for her. Also, something that I noticed when I looked over her menu was that 1) she was eating Mc's beef which isn't 100% beef; it has fillers. 2) she didn't seem to be eating enough veggies, and 3) she didn't mention anything about supplements. > If the bars are something you added right before your weight loss slowed, it > may be worthwhile eliminating them from your diet for a week or two and > observing the results. Well put. She also may just be overdoing them if she's having more than 1 bar per day. Just an idea. -- in Indy (262.5)253.5/236/150 3/26/
Guest guest
Hi T, I read through the menu you posted and the thought that kept repeating in my brain was " Where's the veggies? " On Induction you need 20 carbs a day from veggies, 3 cups of fresh green salad veggies (no carrots, corn, peas or taters) or 2 cups of salad with 2/3 cup steamed veggies. That's alot of veggies, more than I ate when I was low fat or even vegetarian! The veggies have fiber and nutrients you need, and it's dangerous to eat all meat or protien and no veggies for a prolonged period of time. The Atkins Bars may or may not be a wise choice until you hit maintenance - they do have more carbs in them than listed (they contain glycerine, which some people metabolize as a carb and some don't, and because of this labelling laws allow the manufacturers to leave out the carb count of the glycerine). They have been known to cause people to stall, and one or two a day on a regular basis (especially in induction) could be your problem. (Plus the carbs you are spending on them would be better spent on veggies , imho). If it were me I'd save the bars until you are at or near goal - I rarely eat them, just sometimes if we're travelling I like to have them in my purse, as I too am hypoglycemic, and if we get lost in the middle of nowhere (my typical hubby never asks for directions!) and I have a hypoglycemic episode, they are good to bring my blood sugar back up. The diet soft drinks may be a problem too. I learned early on that if I have aspartame, I get food cravings and my weight goes up (water retention), stop aspartame the cravings go away and the weight drops. Splenda (sucralose - the only " ose " that's good for low carb) is a way better choice, and if you live in the states you are fortunate to have quite a few soft drinks sweetened with Splenda. (Here in Canada they are few and far between - and Splenda is made in Canada!! LOL). Caffiene has also been known to raise insulin levels and hinder weight loss (Doctor A addresses this in his book), so that could be a factor in the diet Coke. Pop also has alot of citric acid which some people are known to be sensitive to. So make sure you keep drinking 8 - 10 (or more) glasses of water a day, and stick to whole natural foods (fresh veggies, natural cheese (not processed which usually has sugar and other bad stuff), eggs, real meats of all kinds (no processed stuff as the nitrates and salt can cause water retention and some processed meats have sugar in them)) for a while, until you are really loosing weight and your system is detoxified. Then add back some of that stuff (Atkins (or other low carb) Bars, Diet Pop, processed meats, etc.) one item at a time to see if you are sensitive to each or any of them. And being is ketosis is like being pregnant, either you are or you aren't - so even if the sticks show a trace amount or light to moderate, that means you *are* in ketosis! You don't want the sticks to be really dark as that usually means you are not drinking enough water. Hope I haven't overloaded you with info, I have ADHD and usually talk (or type) way too much!! And keep in mind this is just my opinion, take all, some or none of it as needed. HTH Keep Living La Vida Low Carb! Crystal in Saskatoon, SK, Canada Currently 174/147/132 Arrgghh!!!! Guest guest
I'm not looking to pick a fight - let me say that up front. But in the United States, Mcs uses 100% pure USDA inspected beef, no additives, no fillers, no extenders. I know two different people who are owners of Mcs franchises (not that it matters) and the info is according to the corporate website. -Marlena in DC 214.5/169.0/150 > >Reply-To: Atkins_Support_List >To: <Atkins_Support_List > >Subject: Re: I'M stuck!!! Guest guest
Actually, this is a popular belief. However, it is not true. Mcs, Burger King, Jack in the Box, etc. etc. all use 100% beef. In the very early 80's Mcs did experiment with some soy fill, but that was extremely short lived when they discovered that the filler was more expensive than just plain ole ground beef. If you were to drink just plain old seltzer water, you'd still likely retain b/c of the reaction that happens inside your body with the carbonic acid. As has been stated before, your best bet is to drink WATER. If you HAVE to have some diet pop, try and get in all your water FIRST. Then, once you decide to have some pop, make sure that you drink an equal amount of water to help offset the effects of all the things in the pop that could cause water retention.
