Guest guest
Dear Bobbi, Have you gone to a MDA/ALS clinic yet? They are experts at diagnosing ALS. I am not sure if doctors can ever give a definite diagnosis when it comes to motorneuron disease. I have also heard that arthritis and cervical spondylosis can cause atrophy in the hands. Good luck!!! hands > Hi everyone > Just wondering if anyone out there has any atrophy in their hands. I'm told that only happens with lower neurons, but I've had 2 emgs the last recently and they were both negative. I have had weakness in my right hand a couple of years and recently the muscle between my thumb and index finger is fading away making it difficult to write or lift anything. Is this possible with pls? My doctor has given me a final diagnosis of pls since emgs were negative an have had symptoms for 5 yrs. now. > Thanks Bobbi > > > > > >

Guest guest
Bobbi, You maybe confusing lack of usage muscle wasting and ALS deteriation. I can hardly lift anything with my left hand/arm. I mean I can try, I huff and puff and it's like I'm trying to lift a 1000 lbs but it's only a bag of sugar... Well the muscles are shrinking up but every EMG I get they go, you have the nerves of a 30 year old. So while, yes it could be ALS, my guess it's " just " this... dale hands > Hi everyone > Just wondering if anyone out there has any atrophy in their hands. Guest guest
Hi Bobbi, Well yes I find that my hands are weaker. I write slower and I drop things. I also get allot of cramping in my fingers. I don't go back to the doctor until March and I will bring this up to her. I will let you know what she says. I thought for a while maybe my case was unusual. >
Guest guest
Bobbi, I have ALS and have the atrophy between my thumbs and forefingers. It started ou tin my left hand and then progressed to my right hand. My hands now have progressed to include the back of my hands and palms. I can still write and type. I can't however open many things. Lifting things is very difficult due to atrophy starting in my lower and upper extremeties. sherry
