Hi , Yes it will get better. Im on 80mg Sotalol x 2 a day and have been

for six months now. The first month I was getting use to it. I was very

tired and had some PVC's. The second month I started to feel less tired. IM

now

six months into the Sotalol and I has kept my in NSR but I have days here and

there where I feel fragile and I need to take it easy. Take it for a few

months and unless your having a bad reaction to the Sotalol give it a chance.

As a says, it may take sometime for you to adjust to it but it

may not get any better. Sotalol turned me into a walking zombie

(walking heart rate was below 50 bpm). There are other meds to

try if sotalol doesn't do the trick so don't hesitate to talk to

your doctor if you are having problems.

- I never got used to Sotolol and it always made me feel horrible.. zombie

is the right word! I'm on dofetilide now, for rhythm and Atenelol for rate.. my

active rate is usually less than 50, but I have no negative side effects from it

( the atenelol or the low heart rate!). Perhaps you could suggest to your dr.

giving it a whorl if the sotolol doesn't become more tolerable.

I was on Sotalol for six months and felt absolutely terrible. The

doctors kept telling me I'd probably get use to it....I didn't and it

wasn't very effective (for me), even after increasing my dose, at

keeping me in NSR. I've taken a lot of drugs in battling heart

disease, beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, digitalis, ace

inhibitors, blood thinners without much problems at all. But

Sotalol....... I can honestly say that it made me feel very bad. I'd

still be taking it though if it worked for me. If I was you I'd give

it a chance for a few months and see #1 if it's effective and #2 if

your body adjusts to it. Good luck.

I first started out on a very low dose of Sotolol at 40mg bid, and when I

first started taking it I was a little light headed but that went away

within a few days and I did not have any noticeable effects but it was a

really low dose. But then had more and more break throughs of afib and they

upped my dose to 80mg bid and that was a different story. At first I was

just tired all the time and felt pretty awful. However, it has now been

several months and I now feel pretty much OK on it, I have resumed doing all

the things I used to do and am working out regularly, etc. The only

negative I see is that it has made it virtually impossible for me to

continue to lose weight without cutting my caloric intake far lower than I

would ever consider if I were not on it. I was losing steadily until the

dosage was increased and then my weight loss stopped completely for almost 3

months until I seriously cut way back on my total food intake.

It took me 2 or 3 weeks to become accustomed to sotalol. (really felt like my

energy level had dropped through the floor) Several board members encouraged me

to give it time & things would improve. It did for me. Give it some time.

I was put on Sotalol-120 mg - exactly two weeks ago. I do notice some

small side effects. I am most definitely very tired, I get light

headed when standing for long periods of time or just getting up, and

I do feel some PVC's every once in a while. I actually got to play in

a soccer tournament last weekend...which was the only one I got to

play in this summer. AT this point everything seems to be working

well (knock on wood), and I am extremely excited about that!

Good luck

I'm currently at 160 mgs of sotalol twice daily. This doaseage was

prescribed after breaking through 120 x2 and prior to that 80 mgs x2 in a

relatively short period of time. (Initially the 80mgs x2 kept me in NSR for

a little over two years.)

The increased doseages were extremely tough at first. I'm 44, but felt

considerably older and infirmed. Dizzy spells, fatigue, numbness, startled

reactions to important things like a suprise hug from my 8-year old. While

the desire was there, being physical with my beautiful wife was often

difficult and less pleasurable. A very unhappy time.

Five months later life is much more normal. Still short(er) of breath,

energy and patience then I'd like, but I'm on a treadmill daily for 45

minutes and have enough juice for meeting the needs of my family of five and

work. The dizziness is all but gone too. It can get better . I have

benefitted from eating lighter and smarter, avoiding dairy, taking magnesium

and exercising at a level you can comfortably tolerate. I too felt hopeless

for awhile. Believe me, it does not have to be that way.
