Guest guest
Hi everyone, I have some questions about diet, bloodwork, allergies, fish oil -- we're going to start trying to figure out what works and doesn't for our 3yo apraxic son. I'll give some background first about where we are: We have finally settled on a therapist for Jonah who will see him twice a week, in addition to three times a week from the IU. He will also be getting an hour each per week of OT and PT, and we will start hippotherapy some time in the spring. For right now we feel pretty good about Jonah's therapy situation. So now we're on to other parts of the apraxia puzzle. We suspect that diet is part of the issue because we have cured his reflux with ham (very weird, I know, but it works 100 percent of the time). Also, he has little tiny bumps all over his back, the backs of his arms, his thighs... not itchy, not red, just little bumps. A friend told me that that was an allergy to food from her experience. so, the questions: 1. FISH OIL We have tried ProEFA with Jonah and he stopped talking completely. He talks more and more with the Coromega -- babbling all the time -- loud " NANANANANANA " or " PAPAPAPAPAPa " (for our dog) or " MAMAMAMAMAMA " (for me). But we didn't try it for very long and are wondering if we should risk him stopping the babbling and try it for longer. Or maybe try it with the Coromega? Or maybe try it with borage oil? Or with Carn Aware? Any suggestions/advice/comments are VERY welcome!!! 2. Bloodwork We want to find out if he has any allergies (i.e., should we start him on a GFCF, soy free diet) to foods, but also if there are any other issues that might be a factor. We are particularly interested in this from an alternative medicine approach, but are also looking at it from the main stream medical approach (thyroid, etc.). Has anyone had this type of testing done? What can we expect? What should we test for? How much allergy information can they get from bloodwork? 3. GENERAL Is there a logical starting point that I am missing? What should we try first -- does anyone have any suggestions? We want to try it all at once!!! But, of course we know we should try only one thing at a time, but what should we do first? It all seems so important, but we do want to know what is working. Finally, THANK YOU for reading through this long email!!! We are trying hard to find out if there is *anything* that we can do to help our little sweetheart to talk. I really appreciate any suggestions/comments/advice that you can give. Blessings, in PA
