Hi!

Are you asking if digestive enzymes can help with eye contact and

auditory processing? If so, yes, based on feedback from parents on

this board and in my own experience with my son. Not all children

are helped, but the majority report some degree of success and eye

contact and auditory processing are two areas of improvement given.

Be sure to post if you have more questions.

My 3 year old son's medical problems were basically resolved by being

the GFCF diet but the diet did not improve his autistic symptoms. He

started enzymes about 6 weeks ago and his auditory processing (word

recognition & receptive language) has improved exponentially. Eye

contact wasn't as much of a problem but it also has dramatically

improved. He is now starting to make sounds too. This has been

ongoing over the 6 weeks, it did not happen suddenly when he started

enzymes.

  • 3 years later...

I to have a son who will be three in Oct. He will be leaving the first

step program with speech for an hour twice a week. He will be going

for IEP evaluation Sept 30. They too say 20-30 min once a week is what

is " normal " for the kids. I know it wont be enough. My son uses sign

along with very few words. We have had the same therpist for a year

and she is great . We had two befor her I didnt think they were as

connected with my sons needs. I dont think any therpist will help it

is going to take a special one that know about apraxia . Our therpist

wrote a letter for us to put in my sons file she say he has child hood

apraxia and gives referance to Baby Talks. A page from ASHA that site

has alot info on apraxia. My son says maybe 30 words . He does try to

make the sounds with much prompting and much facial groping on his

part. I think the more you as a parent about the disorder the better

we are to get what the kids need at the school level... I am hoping
