Guest guest
I have been off Cardizem for a week after having taken it for eight years (180mg daily plus an extra 60mg every six hours when in afib). I didn't realize how much it was beating me down. I feel better than I have felt in years. Now I am taking 500mcg Tikosyn twice daily plus a 25mg dose of Toprol. Seems to be working so far. Guest guest
Perhaps I didn¹t give it enough of a chance before complaining about side effects, but Toprol felt even worse than Cardizem! Guest guest
Kathleen, it was recommended that I take the Toprol in the evening, so maybe I don't notice its effects as much. I woke up to a big " da.....THUNK " type of heartbeat during the night but, surprisingly, it didn't go into afib. How often do you have episodes? How long do they last? Are they less now that you are taking Dofetilide? I feel kind of tired today, I think because I am working too much. Looking forward to the long weekend. Guest guest
Sandy, I can go for two days without an episode, lasting anywhere from about 24 to 3 hours. Unfortunately, I am not one of those helped by Dofetilide. Sometimes I can self convert by running or taking a bath. The episodes make me tired, but what surprises me is that I can feel so tired on days that I don¹t have episodes. Hope you have a great weekend. -- Kathleen Stept (Dofetilide 250mcg bid, Diltiazem 120 mg, Coumadin 5mg, baby aspirin), , Mississippi > Kathleen, it was recommended that I take the Toprol in the evening, so maybe > I don't notice its effects as much. Guest guest
Trudy, no, the Toprol is not required permanently with the Tikosyn. The Cardizem was stopped because my heartrate was so slow (40's) and that was also the reason for cutting back on the Toprol from 50 to 25mg. If I go into afib, I'm supposed to take 60mg of diltiazem every six hours (I have a very high rate when I'm in afib: 150-180). I don't have any problems with blood pressure; it has always been low. I am feeling my PVC's since cutting back on the Toprol, but it's tolerable. I had a mega-busy day at my office today...quite stressful (I am selling one of my two businesses). When I got home and sat down, I felt the run of rapid heartbeats that usually precede an afib episode, but they have ceased and nothing more has come of it. so far, so good. Oh, I wanted to mention to you that my EP told me that people with heart issues who take beta blockers tend to live longer than those who do not. I realize that is a very general statement, but just thought you might appreciate hearing it...Sandy P.S. I just realized today that the letters in my license plate are NSR. For some reason, I never looked at them before as normal sinus rhythm. Let's hope so!!! trudyjh@... writes: > > Sandy, is the toprol require permanently with the tikosyn?
