I think facing your own mortality is part of the decision to have WLS. For

me, I looked at the surgery, and I looked at my life if I continuted to weigh

almost 400 lbs. I decided that not only were the chances of me dying young

from morbid obesity HUGE..but also I had no quality of life while I was

waiting to die! I thought back to 's quote in Steel

Magnolias... " I would rather have 15 minutes of WONDERFUL, then a lifetime of

nothing special. " . Sometimes you have to risk it all to win the big prize.

Only you can decided when the time has come for you to risk it all. Let me

tell you...the grass IS pretty darn green on THIS side..and on THIS side... I

am RUNNING thru it!

Dear Debbi,

Mothering four children is a full-time job in itself, isn't it Deb...?

It sounds like you've had a lot on you for the past two weeks. ::Soft Hugs::

I think we've all been where you are right now -- Wanting the

surgery but afraid of the procedure and the recovery, etc., Let me encourage

you. All surgeries carry risks with them but for myself, I was walking

around 175 pounds over my " ideal weight " and I'm not a risk taker.

This surgery is not for everyone but everyone I know who has had it

would do it again. How's that for an endorsement...? :)

I'm glad your oldest is able to help you now that she has her Driver's

License. I'm excited about the day when Chloe, my oldest, will be able to

baby-sit for me. She's 11 and we're going to wait another year and have her

take the Red Cross Baby-sitting Class that is offered at our local Rec Center.

You're in my prayers, Debbi. Take care and God bless you.

Love,

Hi all, this is Debbi in Dayton Ohio, I have not posted a whole lot because

I have not had my sugery. It is coming up on me real fast though and that

is my motivation for posting.

I am GETTING SCARED....I don't want to die. I know I have more of a chance

of dying behind a wheel than I do with this surgery, but I am facing my own

morbidity right now....is this normal?

My surgery is in 13 days, Nov 4. Today I meet the surgeon, Yesterday I had

all my presurgery tests. My husband has been away on a business trip for 2

weeks, so I am exhausted with work and with taking care of all 4 of my kids

by myself and they have been sick with fevers, rashes, an oddly infected

foot that the Doctor has no idea what is causing it, and now today, my

littlest one has a high fever and I cannot take him to Kindergarten, but I

will have to take him to my Surgeons Consult. I think he can sit in the

waiting room, he might even sleep out there. It is a small office. On top

of all this, my oldest got her drivers license Saturday and she has been

driving everywhere by herself, and I feel out of control. aargghhhh, I am

tired, overwhelmed, and worried.

Sorry I had to vent, Adam (husband) will come home Friday, yea!!! and maybe

I can find some calm before the surgery. I do admit, my daughter having her

license is a big help.

Did anyone read the Reader's Digest Article on RNY surgery? It was a

positive article, but also graphic in describing the surgery. I am having

Open RNY.

I had better go get ready for the day, after the surgeon I need to go to

work to pick up some files so I an work at home today. I am a Real Estate

Agent, so alot of stuff can be done at home. I prefer to work at the office

though, but not today.

Have a great day all,

ciao for now,

Hi Debbi. Your fears are normal. You will not die on the table. No one can

predict blood clots or other complications afterwards and that's the scary part.

I think you are overstressed and that is adding to your fears. I prayed a lot

as the day got closer and I also had a few anti-anxiety pills prescribed by my

surgeon to help with the worst of the anxiety at bedtime. Have faith Debbi.

Hang in there until your hubby gets home and then take some time for you.
