Guest guest
Hi all, I have a goiter that is twice the normal size of my “normal” side... I was wondering if anyone Has this same “weird” thing: I do yoga and one of the poses has me put both arms Above my head and interlock my hands and reach up High above my head. When I do this I feel a pressure in the right side of my neck...and have to cough or expel air... Has anyone else ever felt this? I saw my endo last week and forgot to ask her about it, darn. Guest guest
It's probably your goiter pressing against your windpipe. My right lymph under my jaw is swollen and if I turn my head to the right for to long, it starts to hurt and I can feel my pulse beating. Yoga is great for the body, just make sure you stay away from the positions that are bad for certain ailments. Like when you're on your period you have to skip certain moves you can do when you're not on it. I can't remember really but it was in a book about yoga I had. I still love it though... oh and I want to try belly dancing. Re: question for anyone about weird feeling in neck... Hi all, I have a goiter that is twice the normal size of my “normal” side... Guest guest
-Hi Sue, The yoga position you describe has a Medical name for testing for Goitre that presses windpipe. My Dr made me do it last week to see if my Goitre had become bigger. I suggest you need to go back to your Endo with this symptom and get a Scan. With me - my face didn't turn blue, I didn't cough, and Dr said my windpipe must be fine and my feeling of Goitre 'tightness' must be from Reflux. I am still not sure re that - so am chasing another Dr. But your symptoms sound classic book for what my Dr was trying to prove. Guest guest
Hi , Ok, so would have that checked by a doctor, and if so, which one? G P or my endo? I have had several thyroid scans – both uptake and sonograms and have no nodules, but do have a right side of 5.4 cm with a left side of 3.2 cm so it’s pretty big... I just never think about it cuz I only go to my endo twice a year so far... On the yoga, yeah, I have been doing it a couple years now and love it – but some of those lower body “twists” need to be avoided during that time of the month! Sue It's probably your goiter pressing against your windpipe. My right lymph under my jaw is swollen and if I turn my head to the right for to long, it starts to hurt and I can feel my pulse beating. Guest guest
Hi Tina, I would get it checked. Better safe than sorry. I can't recall the name of the test but its exactly as you descibe as appears to be a Drs dx of growing size in a Goitre. Your Endo needs to be made aware. I did it again - and my Goitre has been aching ever since ! Aussie Jane -- In The_Thyroid_Support_Group , jytdtp wrote: > > Hi Aussie, > > Ok, then I should tell my endo... Guest guest
Hi Sue ( got it right this time !), Well - I am getting a 2nd opinion re my 'tight' feeling. As someone pointed out to me - her thyroid cancer had very few symptoms. Blood tests normal, Scan normal, 6 biopies before it was found. Always something to keep in mind if you have concerns. Your symptoms sounded exactly what my Dr described to me and what she was looking for. Apparently I was OK although I dispute that. 1 hour 15 mins since I did that test ( again) and throat Goitre is still throbbing, and voice is husky. I don't think that is normal .... How long do your symptoms take to disappear if you do that movement during Yoga ? Aussie Jane > > Hi Aussie Jane > > LOL! Ok, I was just reading and trying to figure out > Who Tina was ! Guest guest
could be harmless... that is how mine started out.. now I'm having it removed. A goiter is a sign that your gland is not working properly. It tries to increase it's size to make more hormone... when it gets enough hormone, it starts to shrink but might not go back to normal. Have you had biopsies? Until you show up with nodules or swollen lymph glands they will probably not do anything, unless you go doctor shopping. Sadly, eventhough they are our bodies, doctors look at us like we're stupid when we tell them what we think is wrong... if your neck feels inflamed or sore you can take aleve for it and it will help wonders... My goiter is so large now that I feel it pressing against my wind pipe when I'm just breathing in... so yup, time to come out for me. Hopefully, you'll never have to go through that. Let me know what they say though. You can either keep it the way it is and monitor it very closely or get more opinions. Either way, keep me informed. A.
