Guest guest
You very well may get to say you HAD thyroid cancer... the words my endo uses are " no indication of disease " -- sure someday it might come back but for now.. those words sure make it all work for me. In terms of general usage, if someone inquires, i say i HAD thyroid cancer... it isn't active now, and it might or might not recurr.. but today, i had it not have it how we think about ourselves makes a huge difference in how we feel and react. for example on another health front, i'm a person with asthma, not an asthmatic.. its just one of the things about me, like being a thyca survivor.. it isn't all of me.. just one descriptor... along with being a person with a dog, a girl scout troop and a lot of snow in my yard! barb tt 8/99 RAI 4/00 Clean Scans 12/00, 5/02 > Hi All! > > Will I always HAVE thyroid cancer or will I ever get to a point where > I can say that I HAD thyroid cancer? Guest guest
Tina, The reality of having thyca is that this is a lifetime journey. This is the reason for monitoring for the rest of your life. The good news is there comes a time when thyca does not play an important role in your thought process. You know you have to see your doctor once a year and the rest of the year life goes on. Some of us have a more difficult time in the first few years with the disease but eventually things settle down. Sometimes that's hard to believe but honestly it really does happen! There will come a day when you feel like you " had " thyca but you'll still know you need that check-up!
