Guest guest
We were told that DBS is not for MSA patients. I don't really remember why, I just remember that we were told emphatically by several Drs. that it's not a viable treatment for MSA, only PD. in OK --- nancy wrote: > DBS is deep brain stimulation > > Werre wrote: > > > > Deborah, > > > > Sorry, I don't recognize DBS. Guest guest
In Europe there are three kinds of DBS possible, depending on the country and the approval of the health authorities. 1) of the thalamus 2) of the pallidus 3) of the sub-thalamic nucleus The research and the practice has focussed on PD. To my knowledge only a few times one has -experimentally- tried DBS of the STN with MSA-patients. The results were not as good as with PD. Since there has so far not been a study of the effect of DBS on MSA, there are also no official data available to explain the little effect of DBS on MSA. Hans.
