Guest guest
needs more frequent therapy. Regardless of the diagnosis, once a month isn't going to cut it. And, if it happens he is " just a late talker " , you haven't hurt him by having weekly therapy. You can start with a good reading or two of the book, " The Late Talker " by Marilyn Agin,
Guest guest
Hi! I have a 26 month old (Jack) who has been dx w/ apraxia, w/o any other dev. issues (been through the ringer of evaluations. . dev. mds, therapists, etc). . ..he just has an expressive language delay. From everything that I have read. . .speech therapy is the best way to get these kiddos talking. I've also heard that it may be a long process, but it does help tremendously. Jack has speech therapy 2x week. for an hour at a time. I don't think that 1/month is enough at all. . .you might want to see about getting more. i also use these cd's i got on line. . i think it was " express train " .com or something like that. . . i use them in the car. . .a sneaky way of getting some speech therapy in. I do think that my guy is very very receptive to everything we try to teach him. For instance, we had a wooden alphabet puzzle that i would take the letter " o " and hold it up to my mouth and say " ooooooo " . . about a week later he was doing the same thing. They pick up so much stuff. I would focus on trying to up his speech therapy. I think there really is limited known about apraxia. . that some pediatricians aren't familiar with it at all. (my doc told me " don't worry about jack's lack of speech until he was 2 1/2!! " . . and if one more person tells me einstein didn't speak until he was 3, i may just lose it!!) I can't even imagine having wasted all this time without speech therapy!!!! Best of luck. A great website is www.apraxia-kids.org aimee <<< My son is a brite and happy 34month old little boy, who doesn't talk...he says little words like mom, daddy, hey, and so on... he is at a level of 30 or so words since he started to speak...but at this time only says probaly 10 words at the most... he has been seeing a speech therpist since he was 18 mos old...at that age they said he was at a level of a 3-6mos old in speech...we have been to every doctor we can...they say there isn't a reason to why he don't talk...now they bring up apraxia, in which i have never heard of...til now...lol...he had other issues too, he couldn't feed himself til he was over two yr old....he isn't potty trained at this time...he does pick up things real fast..like: signing, he taught his 13 mos old sis to sign more and eat....he also makes up his on signs too....i feel so helpless..because he tries to talk to us but we can't understand what he wants...he talks with his eyes...he uses words for a week or more then they just disappear..we never hear them again from him...how can we tell if he has apraxia or is it something else causing his speech delay...i need help...i want the best for benjamin and i am scared i'm not getting the right help...he sees a speech therpist 1x a month and ot 1xa month....is it enough? _________________________________________________________________ Check out the coupons and bargains on MSN Offers! http://youroffers.msn.com
