he probably said two grains...or two 60 mg. tablets. That's too much to

start on. 1 grain should be fine...or 1/2 grain. See what the rest of the

folks

say.

Everyone is so helpful. Can someone give me some advice? I just

got my lab results back. I am currently on .125Levoxyl. I am very

fatigued, and have joint pains. I also wake up with headaches at 4

a.m. I'm thinking there is a problem with cortisol. dr. says 5mg

cytomel will help, but won't prescribe since my endo says no. I

tried Armour, but the hormone doc said to stop levoxyl and start on

2mg? Armour. I got heart palpatations, etc., and stopped after two

days. Maybe I should have started 1/4 pill at a time? Do I still

stay on levoxyl?

Anyway, some of my numbers

ferritin....15.......10-144, dr.said this is ok because my iron is

100...40-100; my TIBC is 324.....250-390; and my saturation is

31...15-50.

Tetrahydro-desoxycortisol...0.05....0.2-1.0 LOW

Pregnanetriol urine....0.16......0.6-2.5 LOW

Aldosterone.....17.4....6.0-44.0

Selenium....0.4......0.19-0.30

serotonin.....74.5.....optimal range 175-275

epinephrine is suboptimal, norepinephrine is high

T3,free......328....230-420

T4,free......1.5....0.8-1.8

Testosterone...43....20-76

TSH....0.01.....0.40-5.50

Again, thanks so much for any suggestions.

hello nancy,

i don't know what the rest of your numbers mean but your free t3 is

low. you want that number to be at the upper range. some people don't

feel optimal until it actually exceeds that upper range.

aldosterone is low.

tsh appears good.

and obviously your serotonin is way low--is that from depression?

..125 levoxyl doesn't sound like it's adequate for you. i don't know

why your endo says not to get on cytomel, but christ, endos are

incredibly stupid sometimes--even worse than family doctors, from the

stories i've heard. armour would be a great idea but i think instead

of 2mg, you mean 2 grains? that's a huge starting dose. you want to

start at a half grain (30mg) and then make increments. no wonder you

got palpitations! palps are a common side effect of thyroid medication

when one starts on too high a dose.

best,

baron

I'm getting ready to leave work, but I want to mention something about

those headaches. They may well be blood pressure related. I started

doing this, many times, before my diagnosis of thyroid problems. I've

been hypoT, swung to hyperT/Graves, and I'm now hypoT with blocking

antibodies.......so i have to have thyroid replacement.

Ferritin being this low will make you feel like 'death warmed over' so

I think the dr is wrong.

i don't know them off the top of my head--i wonder if someone else here

might.

typically the lab provides the range, as ranges vary from lab to lab.

you can probably find an example of what the ranges are, by looking at

someone else who might have posted their own results. the range is

usually the number values in the brackets.

for instance:

TSH = 1.03 (0.3 - 5.50)

would mean that the patient's tsh was 1.03 while the range was 0.3 to

5.50.

YES! I was just diagnosed w/high blood pressure. I was having headaches EVERY

morning. It was driving me nuts. They put me on a beta blocker (tenormin),

which works wonderfully, but which also blocks T4 to T3 conversion. I'm willing

to take a higher dose of Armour to compensate. I wonder of the hypo had

anything to do w/this...

Come to think of it, I have an old lab report with the ranges on it...for Free

T3 anyway. Not Free T4 tho. That's what I wanted to know the ranges for.

It really looks like you are hypothyroid still and your numbers seem

to indicate you are on Synthroid because of the high T4 with respect

to T3. You may also have a bit of a conversion problem. I have not

seen yet one post on this site or three others I visit where people

feel good with their T3 near the middle of the range. I really think

most people need it to be in the upper 1/3 of the range. Ranges are

skewed toward hypothyroidism due to how they are determined.

You also definitely have adrenal fatigue another sign of

hypothyroidism and possibly poor conversion of Synthroid. TSH is way

over suppressed and not usefull for telling you anything. Without

proper adrenal function you cannot make adequate seratonin and thus

not adequate melatonin. Antidepressants may not work for you if you

aren't making enough seratonin. Antidepressants only keep seratonin

in the system longer, so if you don't have any to keep, it won't do

much good. Depression is a and possibly adrenal fatigue.

If you get thyroid fixed, iron should improve by itself. But, you

could take an iron supplement for a while untill you get your

thyroid dose up higher. You will probably not feel good until you

get thyroid up to a minimum of 3 grains. Typical Armour final doses

are 3 to 5 grains.

You definitely need some adrenal support. I would think that a

glandular would be the best for you since it would replace many

adrenal homrmones and you seem to be short on more than one. IsoCort

or Nutri+meds would be good choices. Both are natural extracts. Take

8 IsoCorts a day in 4 even doses or about 4 to 6 Nutri+meds a day in

4 evenly divided doses. Adrenal support should greatly improve low

seratonin levels.

The headaches are due to adrenal fatigue I will bet you and you can

definitely get a terrible headache from low blood pressure. Adrenal

support should go a long way toward fixing this. Adrenal hormones

are needed for maintaining blood pressure to the brain and thus

oxygen.
