Guest guest
, My girls both have mild/mod SNHL and in my opinion, seem to hear everything I say. Their comprehension has been eval'd as excellent and above age-range -- without the aids. Their speech is delayed a bit, but they have a sibling who talks non-stop (triplets) and I think they are delayed b/c of that as much as due to the loss. They do have aids, though, and from what the audiologist has explained, they will have trouble with softer sounds and concepts like the 's' in plural words if they don't have the aids. Also, she says they can't hear whispered words. She said my normal hearing of whisper level (highest frequency) to them is normal speaking tone - meaning that's as high as they hear - anything softer is unheard without an aid. This will play out in school when it gets noisy, or when teacher is not talking toward them, among other things. Your son's hearing loss could be different levels than my kids, so take these examples as just that...no way for me to really say what your son will need. Edith Lydia Re: Ricky's hearing test questions & ENT update Hi Lydia, thank you for your very informative reply Another question, is conductive hearing loss repairable? Like if he does need tubes in the one ear it would mean he can hear ok after? But I dont get it when the OAE was absent in both ears and he had fluid in just one.... maybe I am just too confused to get it LOL.... From what I understand thanks to you guys and the websites I've found and you all referred me to, I think he may have neurosensory loss, just don't know to what degree yet. If it is mild will he be able to not need a hearing aid? thanks, All messages posted to this list are private and confidential.
