Hi and Donna,

My husband, Mark, did the self-cath thing for two to three years then we decided to go with the indwelling cath. About 2 years ago his urologist suggested a supra pubic cath that goes directly into his bladder. It has been the best thing we went with during this disorder. In the morning I put his leg bag on and he wears that all day then sleeps with the overnight Foly bag.

Mark was dx'd in November 1996 but had symptoms for probably 3-4 years prior. When I suggested the cath to his urologist he was all for it. Mark could still walk at the time but was having trouble standing to self-cath. I work outside the home so I wasn't available to cath for him. As he progressed he had trouble using his hands so we feel we made the right choice.

Mark has had an indwelling cath for the past 4 years and has only had 2 UTI's during that time. It's changed once a month and we have never had any problems with either the supra pubic or the cath he had through his penis for the first two years. We all agree that the supra pubic is the best and more comfortable for Mark.

Hope this helps, take care,

Judy Whittaker
