Guest guest
You brought up a good point! Don't know your age, but I showed signs of menopause or peri around the age of 46yrs. For many, many years I took supplements over the counter of soy based estrogen products and my OB/GYN new this. I was becoming extremely estrogen dominant and I did not recognize the symptoms. I was havng hot flashes/sweats like crazy!! My period became extremely heavy, clotting, and I wound up needing a DNC to clear everything out. She only did something when I practically crawled into her office. And of course a hysterectomy was mentioned. I became extremely anemic and this is when my thyroid started to bottom out too. After the DNC I was put on both Cenestin (estrogen) and Prometrium (progesterone). I continued with heavy periods for couple more years, I finally came to realize that if my being estrogen dominant caused all this bleeding and made the DNC necessary - why am I still taking estrogen??? When you are over weight, the fat produces more estrogen than normal. I'm not real sharp or quick, huh?? I mentioned this to my GYN, and she just said at my age, then 53 that I didn't need any hormones. It was at this time I started researching online about how I felt, and found much good information and many others who suffered the same things. I now take only compounded progesterone, 50mg twice a day. Hot flashes are gone, but if I only take one 50mg, it's not enough. Most Dr's don't think you need progesterone, and especially not if you don't have a uterus anymore. That is slowly changing. Every cell in your body needs progesterone, and it is the progesterone production that drops sooner than the estrogen production drops in most women. Adding progesterone can make all the difference!! Of course I also take Armour Thyroid, between armour and progesterone, I'm doing pretty good now. I have found one doctor here in Houston that takes care of all my thyroid and hormonal needs. She's a DO, and is very good. You might look into something similar. Good luck, hope this info helps you!! Guest guest
Natural progesterone DOES support the thyroid. in Va. What if the hypoT that I have is actually a symptom of something else and that is why I am not feeling better? What if it is actually perimenopause, and I could use some progesterone? Something is blocking the thyroid hormone from getting where it needs to be!!! HELP! Have you ever thought about that??? (I just had an MRI on my brain last Friday...waiting for results to see if there is something else in there that might offer clues.)

Guest guest
How do you know if you need natural progesterone? I don't have any uterus & only one unoperational ovary. So never thought I would need progesterone at all. A brain MRI sounds like a good thing to get too. RE: just a thought... Natural progesterone DOES support the thyroid. in Va. Guest guest
The entire endocrine system works together, and one can't go without the other. If one is off, you can almost bet that something else is off. They're all co-dependent on each other. That's why the wholistic approach is the only way to treat thyroid or any of the others. They all have to be investigated. just a thought... > > > What if the hypoT that I have is actually a symptom of something else > and that is why I am not feeling better?
