I just want to know if we actually go to a speech therapist will it be more

than one day a week? One day a week seems so

limited.

Go with your gut and ask for more days. If once a week seems like not

enough, then it probably isn't. I'd argue that twice to three times would be

good

and would provide not only reinforcement of skills, but the opportunity to

advance more quickly as well. Is one of the concerns a delay? If so, then

additional time will be easier to get.

Yes, Jakob has a major speech delay. He is almost three and only says four

words. So you can see my concern about only having therapy one day a week for

one hour. I know that Jakob will thrive with his cochlear implant as long as we

and a therapist continually work with him. thank you for responding.

What you need to find is either an Audiologist or SLP who is experienced in

working with kids with hearing loss - or even better CIs. It is important

that the professional understands the relationship between the

speech/comprehension errors and hearing ability - and differentiate a speech

error from an auditory error. Your CI center should be able to help you find

individuals/programs in Portland who work with other kids from the program

that the recommend. If speech is a goal for yoru family (as I am assuming

since you are opting for a CI), then ask professionals who advocate for this

for recommendations/referrals. I'd start at your CI center.
