Guest guest
To answer your question, yes it is possible - kids are growing so fast at that age! If you can't get a good fit with the mold you have, get in touch with your audiologist and let him/her know. I've known of kids that have new impressions taken every time they go in for new molds because they grow so fast they had to get new molds every 1-2 months for awhile! Do you have any otoform (a cream used to help seal an earmold)? That also may be an option - it can also help ease getting the earmold in. Good luck! Guest guest
Tawyna- We regularly got new earmolds every 6-8 weeks, sometimes even faster, until Hadley was 2 1/2. Sometimes you'll just have bad molds, even if the initial impression looked fabulous. You should have a warranty period on purchased molds that covers about 3 months, so you can have unlimited remakes during that period (if you choose a color or design, you must stick with that choice for the remakes). OtoFerm works wonders for feedback. Your audi should be able to sell you an (overpriced) tube of it. You can also purchase it online for about $4 a tube. You can also ask your audi if you can use Vaseline on his molds; please check, first and use it sparingly, because Vaseline can wear down the molds (although, I've used it for over 2 weeks and not sparingly, and there was no difference in the mold). If the feedback is really bad, have your audi rush the order, so you can get your molds back within a few days. You can also discuss reprogramming his aids for a few weeks to bring down the high frequencies a tiny bit. Finally, if you have control over his volume wheel, try turning the volume down a bit. This can buy you a few days. Kerry Feedback Ok, Ian has only had his hearing aids for a short time, and already I am having a hard time with feedback on the right one. Is it possible that he is outgrowing his ear mold already? Tawnya Ian, 1, mild/mod , 3 1/2 hearing All messages posted to this list are private and confidential. Guest guest
Nope, I dont have any of that, but I think I better get some. The thing is, it only gives me feedback when I cup his ear or hug him. So its not a huge problem, I just don't want it to get worse. Guest guest
If I hug my boys, I always make them squeal (we have a ongoing joke " made you squeak! " ). If it's only giving feedback when you hug him or cup his ear, that might not be problemmatic. Usually I gauge it if you can hear it fairly consistently (like Sam, right now!). Guest guest
For some reason it just stopped. I dunno if it just " got comfy " in there and is fine now or what?! Guest guest
Earmolds are truly mysterious things - that happens to our boys. It will be uncomfortable then get comfy - squeal and then not. If it squeals continually, that's when I make a new appointment! The Archers wrote: >For some reason it just stopped. Guest guest
Thanks. I think all this hearing loss stuff just leads to second guessing what needs to be done! Guest guest
I agree - I so often think it's more an art than a science. Our boys have had their hearing aids now for 9 years - gosh, is that possible? And I'm no better predicting when an earmold is outgrown now than 9 years ago! But most of it is much, much easier.... Plus of course the guys can tell you when things aren't right now, which is wonderful. Barbara The Archers wrote: >Thanks.
