Hi All,

So many Questions!! I've only been a member for 2 weeks - hadn't even

heard of RSS 3 weeks ago.....very steep learning curve!! Just wanted

to tell you all how valuable this site has been to me - I think I've

read a very large percantage of all the posts now - and been

staying up much later than I intend in the evening - there is so much

to learn!

One day I might be able to answer the questions other people post -

but for now I'm just going to keep on asking :-)

OK Here goes

1. Periactin

We have been prescribed periactin for use before meals - I have been

encouraged to " experiment " with timings and find what works best for

Finlay - (1 hour before a meal seems to be the optimum for him). We

were told to use it " as and when " - so we havn't been terribly strict

about giving it to him 3 times a day (sometimes its once, or

twice...) also we don't give it to him at the same time each day - it

just depends on his routine. Now as I read this Im thinking that you

guys will all think I've been really irresponsible.....but the thing

is I checked with a paediatrician a pharmacist and our GP. and I

keep asking " should I be being more disciplined about this - does it

matter if we skip a dose " Anyway they all seem fairly relaxed about

it. Now having read the posts re periactin and seeing that you all

seem to have very strict dosages and timings I'm a bit worried that

we are doing the wrong thing - so I've stopped using it in the

meantime 'til I can get some clarification (our paediatrician is on

hols at the moment)

We get periactin in a syrup suspension the potency is 1mg/5ml. We

are giving Finlay 5mls per dose up to 3 times a day (ie 1mg x3)

Finlay is 17months old, 70cm tall and weighs 7.5kgs (about 15lbs I

think)

Incidently I find the easiest way to give it to him is in 20mls of

pediasure in his bottle - he just loves it!

So I'd be really interested in the dosages you use and how often you

administer it and if you know why its important to keep using it

without missing a dose.....

2.Eating

Just wanted to add that Finlay is now almost eating age appropratly -

but it just happened suddenly when he got a few more teeth =- he now

has 6 at the front and 4 molars

But he is still drinking formula/pediasure from a bottle - havn't

been brave enough to cross that bridge yet...its the only way I can

guarante he will drinmk enough so I'm not going to stress about it

for a while yet...

Have tried using these anyway up cups - but he just can't suck hard

enough to get the liquid. He will have some water form a sipper cup -

but it mainly goes down his front.

3Hypo G

Only just found out about this the other night (one of my midnight

stints on this bulletin board!!)

Feel really stupid coz I had noticed that finlay had very sweet

breath in the mornings and often sweated during the night duh!

Anyway I woke him up to give him a bottle that night but his breath

smelled fine and he was not interested in the bottle at all

(pediasure) that was at midnight he last ate at (pediasure) at 7.30pm

(ish). In the morning he woke at 5ish - he always does this but jsut

goes back to sleep - anywya I rushed through to try and give him a

bottle - again not really intereseted he had a little (50mls) and

then just went back to sleep.

The pattern seems to be that he has the sweet breath etc in the

morning but not through the night. So Im wondering is it possible to

have mild hyupo g - maybe it doesn't happen every night? Or maybe it

only hapens after 10hours - not 3 or 4?

Should I be waking him to feed even if he appears not to be hungry?

I should also say that although Finlay is small he does have some

body fat - nothing like hs peers but he is not completely fat free

i will direct all these questions to my own doctor but just wondered

it you could shed any light.....

Also if you do wake your kids to feed them what is the best thing to

give them?

I read all of Doctor h's posts re hypo g and ketones - they were so

helpful - she is a legend!

Many thanks for all your help - its great not to have to travel the

road alone and apologies for the length of this post. Thanks for

reading if you've got this far!
