what were all you levels when you started increasing and at what dose did you

start at and when?

OK to increase?

I'm on 3 1/2 grains of Armour and never felt worse. I've been

increasing 1/2 grain at a time. It's been a little over 4 weeks since I

raised to current level. Is it OK to go to 4 grains today or is this

too soon?

I started at what the conversion chart said for .125 Synthroid - I believe

it was 1 1/4 grains - in April. My last labs were at 3 grains:

FT3 = 2.32 (1.45-3.48)

FT4 = 0.73 (0.75-1.91)

TSH = 0.00

Date: Fri, 8 Oct 2004 10:59:43 -0700

All I can personally say is if I still felt that horrible, I'd

raise. 4 weeks is long enough to know how you feel. And your labs at

3 grains showed your Free T3 was still WAY too low. No wonder you

feel so bad! :o( And if you Ferritin is optimal, at least you can

rule that out as contributing. Go for it!!

Thanks for the YES vote, Janie! Yes, my ferritin is good (75). One

more question, should I take the extra 1/2 grain as a 3rd dose.... maybe

early evening? I currently take 2 grains at 06:00 and 1 1/2 grain around

2pm or whenever I remember. Or is there a better way to split it up?

I only know that I have a lot more soreness and aches and pains and fatigue

than I ever did. I can barely walk by the end of the day or after sitting

for more than 15 minutes or so. My temp still fluctuates between high

96's and 97's. All the usual hypo stuff as before, but a lot more soreness

and less energy. ...joan

:( that is awful and i'm sorry. but i guess the majority opinion so

far is to increase and it can't hurt. your temp is low and you're

still having hypo symptoms, so go for it.

have you had your adrenals tested? if the adrenal output is low,

increasing your meds would make you feel worse.

Earlier this year, I read (and can't remember where) that it's a

good idea to take a larger amount in the morning to " awaken " the

receptors. Not sure about it, but it sounded good. So why not add

the extra amount in the morning and see what it does for you? Or,

you can add that extra amount at bedtime and observe that, too. I

take 2 grains in the morning by 10 am, another 1 grain around 2 pm

(or like you, when I remember--haha) and another 1/4 grain when I go

to bed (simply because it's convenient to have those little suckers

by my bed.) I am wondering if taking that 1/4 grain at night is why

I don't seem to need my morning dose so early. All a guess.

Back off 15 mgs for now, then go up 15 mgs at a time, staying on a new dose

for 8 wks, until you get back up to where you're wanting to go. Slowly,

very slowly.

OK to increase?

Could it be that you are suffering with some adrenal issues. The

aches are a symptom of low cortisol. When I have low adrenal issues,

thyroid raises make me feel terrible. I get stiffness in my joints

and lots of aches and pains and I find myself sitting around in a

kind of miserable daze. Have you tried some adrenal support? It can

ease the way to getting the thyroid dose up. Your numbers say you

are hypo still. Just being hypo is a strain on the adrenals. But,

they need time to recover between raises. So, some adrenal support

speeds things up.

I don't know about my estrogen, progesterone, dhea levels. I never knew

there were tests for these until I joined this board. My new PCP won't

test me for these. He wants to send me to a gynecologist. Heck, they

are the ones who put me on premarin, provera, etc. , when I had a

hysterectomy 15 yrs ago, so what do they know? He's giving me a referral

to an endo. Yeah, I know.... no help there. This endo is on Armour's

website, but won't give my mother Armour. But he did test her DHEA, at my

request. So, I'm hoping he'll test those hormones for me. In the

meantime, I'm suffering. Will be a long wait to see the doctor, get

tested, if possible, etc. So I'm struggling with what to do while I wait

for all that to happen. .... joan

Tish,

Do you mean that you don't have to have palpitations to indicate low

adrenal issues?

Gee, it seems I've had more stiffness and aches & pains since I recently

increased my

Armour. I had no idea that could be an indication of adrenal issues.

in Va.

My temp still fluctuates between high

96's and 97's.
