Guest guest
Ann - Any problems keeping the condom catheter on? Doesn't Al move a lot during the night, thus dislodging it? I'm about ready to try it again, but the first two attempts were failures. Our neurologist did recommend cloth tape (he gave us a sample, in fact).....I think it's just getting used to the procedure and the necessity that's taking time.. Thanks for any suggestions. Elaine Grimmesey >>> Ann 03/12/01 05:58PM >>> , We got a super pole installed next to the bed for Al to use to turn over, get in and out of bed. We use the wedge 6 " for his head and have his feet elevated with foam leg elevators. and we still sleep in a double bed. Since we are now using the condom catheter we are both getting a really good nights sleep. Guest guest
We're expecting delivery tomorrow or the next day on our first super pole - from American Medical Supply - they order out of Canada, and were very courteous and efficient. I found them via the internet. Elaine Grimmesey >>> " and Marilyn " 03/12/01 08:26PM >>> Super pole is a company out of Canada. We first learned about it from Sophia of CA at the Cleveland Conference. She had several in her house. We have one at the table. If someone else does not give you a source, I will hunt one for you. A home health care equipment facility actually order it for us. Guest guest
Thanks, Barbara. Funny thing (there has to be humor here somewhere!) - Since we first tried these about four months ago (only twice), we have been receiving a box each month, also. It's just so incredulous when it is so difficult to deal with insurance for the things that we REALLY need to (providing safety for Bob), we end up with 120 condom catheters which we didn't need! Oh, well........ Thanks again, Elaine >>> 03/14/01 12:52PM >>> Elaine: Ken now has an indwelling Foley catheter which is very convenient given the stage he is in, but for several years he used a condom catheter at night and whenever he would be away from a toilet for a long time. We found that after a while he became allergic to the latex one, so we always ordered non-latex. Ken wore a large which was not the most common size. We tried several brands and sizes before settling on the one that worked best. We liked the ones that are self-adhering, but we always put paper tape around too. Once in a while one would come off at night, but they usually stayed put very well. Ken does not turn over by himself, so once he was in bed, this was not a problem. We always put a pan under the bag so if something pilled out, the urine would be caught. Our Home Health Company delivered them once a month along with the bags, and they billed Medicare and our Medicare Supplement. I hope this answers most of your questions. Good Luck.
