Guest guest
Sandy - can I ever relate to that! My Sister-in-Law's cousin needed work, so she comes weekly to clean the house and do laundry and make the beds. Then I started paying her extra to stay later and clean the bird cages. I don't feel so guilty now. It costs a lot of money, but for me it is necessary and very much worth it. ...... joan ========================= I had this same thing happen for about a year. I was so hypoT I could hardly walk through the house, much less clean it. The first thing I did was hire somebody to come clean the house for me. I have 5 african grey parrots, and several quaker parrots, so for me, it was an effort to just clean cages, which I couldn't get anybody else to do! I honestly had no strength to do anything other than get up, sit down, and then head back to bed, or drag myself to work. I hired my aunt to clean my house weekly because she was out of work, on disability and she wanted to do it. .............. I spent a small fortune on the housekeeper for quite some time, and slowly but surely the debts started piling up. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,. I then told my son he'd have to vacuum for me, because I honestly couldn't stand to do that, as my back hurt too bad. SandyE~Houston

Guest guest
, all of mine talk, with the exception of one. Four of mine are all rehomes, who had at least one owner before me. My youngest african grey, Echo I had raised from 4 weeks old. He's so wonderful. One speaks English and Vietnamese (that I bought last year). lol. I don't remember life before they came here. They are wonderful! I hated that when I was sick, they didn't get near as much attention that they deserved, but that's all better now since I'm on Armour and they love me, so it's worth it. They are very forgiving and as long as they have clean cages and good food to eat, they basically entertain each other, although I do enjoy their company. It's quite a hoot around our house! lol. I can't imagine a day without them now that I've experienced the joy they bring me. Life would just be too dull and boring. :-) SandyE~Houston RE: Cleaning House / Sandy Hi, Joan & Sandy, I forgot I was going to respond about the birds! Guest guest
Hi and Sandy, I have a tiel, CAG, and SIE. They are great stress-relievers! I don't have kids so they are my babies. I'm so glad I found someone to help clean their cages, because it is more important that they be taken care of than to have a clean house! No matter how worn out I am, they get lots of love and attention - even if it's just to cuddle with me while watching TV at night. .....joan >> Hi, Joan & Sandy, I forgot I was going to respond about the birds! Guest guest
Your conversation reminds me of my life over 14 years ago. When I was in practice I specialized in exotic avian medicine. There were so few veterinarians willing to see birds that people came from every State around. I just loved it! I think the birds knew I did too because we had a great time during the examinations. :-) At that time we had our own Blue and Gold Macaw, African Grey, Amazons, Cockatiels, Budgies, canaries, doves, and more kinds of finches than I can list. It was a very memorable time for me. My Blue and Gold was my absolute baby. Boy did she talk! And talk back! Their vocabulary/intelligence is amazing. I still laugh when I think about some mornings when she would be moody and I would try to clean her cage. She would run across the playpen top in a threatening posture yelling, " stop it, stop it! " And I would have to duck away from an intended nip! And she was so jealous of my husband! When I was holding her and my husband walked by she would swoop out to bite him! If I wasn't home then he was a great playmate. As soon as she heard me coming through the door she would nail him with a good bite and yell " BIRD " , calling for me. LOL During quiet times together I called her " bird " affectionately. She adopted the same affectionate name for me! When she hit sexual maturity she got very frustrated and nasty most of the time. I did the best thing for her and gave her to a friend who bred Macaws. But, I'll tell you, it just about killed me to loose her. After several months I went to visit her. She was in a room with probably 50 other birds of every kind. As I walked towards her cage she stopped playing with her toys....... looked intently at me.....bobbed her head....and said, " bird! " I could barely see her through my tears as I took her out.
