Guest guest
here are my results from my test last week: TSH 0.1 t3 3.8 t4 2.4 i had/have a nodular goiter and had 2 RAI's 1 year apart so now i'm hypo. i've found a local doc who will prescribe armour but was waiting on these results before i called ( my PCP is against it). i was on 112 mcg levoxyl for about a year (didn't take any meds the year after the first RAI) then this year they took me from 112 mcgs to 150, then 137, then 125 and now they want me to take 112 again. is this normal? now i don't know as much as i should about my condition but it seems logical that maybe my meds should have been raised just a little, like 125 and see how that went before taking me on this roller coaster ride that cost me almost 20 pounds weight gain. will this be a problem on armour, is it more exact? i just don't understand why i had to go through the different strengths to end up were i started. 2 more questions: what is brain fog?? does it mean you don't remember or that your thinking process is slow? and what about adrenals? i don't get what that means. will i have symptoms that tell me that there is something wrong with my adrenals or should i just assume that something is wrong because i'm hypo? thanks to anybody who can address this situation. Guest guest
Hi Kay. Lots of answers and comments to give you here. First, when you post your lab results, you need to give us the ranges, which can be different from lab to lab. Is it normal for docs to change your meds like that?? Yes, if they are lab-obsessed and thought your labs said you were too hyper. The real question--is that smart? Absolutely not. To go by labs and ignore symptoms is idiocy, and unfortunately, it's where many docs are!! For example, when folks get up to an optimal dose of Armour....a dose that removes all symptoms of hypo, gives you fantastic energy, high metabolism, weight loss potential, etc., the TSH will be suppressed at less than 1, and the free T3 will be over the top. So....lab-obsessed docs will freak out and try to lower your dose, EVEN THOUGH you have NO symptoms of hyper and feel WONDERFUL!!! Will Armour do the same for you? No, because it's not the Armour that's the problem. It's the doc who does that to you. It's crucial to find a doc who is knowledgeable.......or, if worse comes to worse, you can self-treat like many folks do here, and successfully. Armour can be found without a prescription. The beauty of Armour is that it gives you EXACTLY what your own thyroid would be giving you--T4, T3, T2 T1 and calcitonin, the latter which keeps calcium from leeching out of your bones. You are only on T4, a storage hormone. You have NO direct T3, and that is crucial. And the others are important, too. Yes, you have it right about brain fog. You can be hypo and have no adrenal problems. I am under the impression that the majority here do not need adrenal support. BUT, some definitely do before they can truly benefit from the Armour! Adrenals are right above your kidneys. Some folks call them the fight-or-flight glands. Your adrenals produce three major classes of hormones, and they all aid in dealing with stress. Two of those hormones are necessary for life. If you adrenals are over-taxed, they become sluggish. Sluggish adrenals cause problems when you try to raise your Armour. You may have sluggish adrenals if you have severe insomnia, and many other sluggish adrenal symptoms are similar to hypothyroid. But before you make any assumptions about adrenals, you might first want to know where your Ferritin (storage iron) is, since many folks here seem to have low Ferritin, which can also cause problems. I hope I answered your questions, and you will get other great responses, too. Armour is a far, far superior treatment than what you are on. Guest guest
Thanks so much for your help. I didn't know I needed to ask for a range. I just asked what were my test results and that's what the nurse told me. i'll know what to ask now. I thought i found a doc here but both that were on armourthyroid.com were no longer at that office. so i'm off to call everyone on that list in my area. contrary to what my doc said like his word is " law " . i believe i need to talk to a doc who will prescribe armour so i can make an informed decision. i firmly believe that all the people on the thyroid groups CANNOT be wrong and i also believe that i shouldn't have to take a lot of drugs just because the companies and docs are pushing it, as in drug pushers. it never occurred to me to self medicate, i thought i would need a docs direction. i'll look into that if all else fails. thanks so much, i've saved your response for future reference. How are things going with you?
Guest guest
It is a feeling of being in a " gray out " , with not as much alertness or conscious perception, as though walking around in a dream, or rather a nightmare, i.e., help, I can't wake up. Guest guest
that's a good description of it. Like being alive in a body but not " here " really. Can't concentrate or focus on much of anything. Forget things too & ramble on in often meaningless sentences. Walk around bumping into walls & furniture too.
