Guest guest
This is my first visit here. I just read the Late Talker and wanted to check the site out on my friend's computer. I think my son Liam may have this. He is 29 month's old and not talking other than " mama " " dada " " nuh-nuh " (his sister, Mykah, age 4), and " mmmm " (most everything else). He seems very bright in every other way and can show that he understands everything being said to him. I am teaching him sign language right now (which he picks up amazingly fast) because I don't know what else to do to help him communicate his needs and wants. He has speech therapy once a week through early intervention, but has made no progress. He also has occupational therapy once a week for some sensory intgration issues. He is not able to blow bubbles or kiss but has no trouble with swallowing (but still cannot use a spoon as well as agemates). He sometimes tries new words but either nothing comes out or a sound totally unrelated to the word comes out " mee-ha " for star, " ig " for train, etc. I will be looking forward to hearing about your children and things that have helped, etc. I am really curious about the fish-oil thing. I don't have a computer at home so I can only get on line about once a week but will be checking here often to see what's new. Thanks! H. Guest guest
Welcome, ! It sounds like you are in the right group. All of us have been there or still are there! Frustration and uncertainty. I can tell you that my son was in speech therapy for a year before he made a surge with speech. He needed to improve his oral skills and breath control before any words would come out. I would ask the SLP and OT if they can do work on his mouth. There are tools and exercises that will help improve oral awareness and strength. Does the OT use brushing and joint compression for sensory integration issues? My son loves the brushing. It is encouraging that your son is able to pick up sign language quickly. I think he sounds appropriate for the PECS. That is a picture system for communication. My son also latched on to this very quickly. He has some motor planning problems so sign language became difficult, but the PECS has been wonderful. I would think both your OT and SLP know about PECS. Mine use them as part of therapy to get my son to request and interact. Sounds like your child is very social. That is wonderful. Fish oil. Oh, beautiful fish oil. I have had my son on Omega 3s since he was 20 months old. He is now 38 months. In the beginning, I know the oils primed him for therapy and aided in his development. At 34 months I switched to ProEFA per 's suggestion. WOW! He wasn't reciting the Declaration of Independence, but he started imitating our words the very next day. It was eerie. He went from about 4 words to over 100 words in less than 2 months. Not all pronounced correctly, but Mommy understands! I look forward to hearing more about your son. Many of these kiddos are quite bright and the stories told can be so inspirational. Take care, Pam mom to Noah (7.5), Olivia (almost 6!) and Ian (38 months. Dyspraxia, speech delays, some sensory issues, possible Autism and all around perfect hugger!) > This is my first visit here. Guest guest
Debbie, You said, " Is this normal? " There probably isn't a soul on here that knows what " normal " is, but there will be a whole bunch of us that can commiserate with you with similar symptoms! :-) It really is a provocative question.... bottom line, probably some of both..but tired is tired just the same. Liz T [ ] Hi! I'm new! I was diagnosed a few months ago with Psoriatic Arthritis. It started with a very swollen finger. Now I have pain in my hands, wrists, elbow and lower back mostly. I have overall stiffness mostly in the morning. I don't start feeling " normal " until after noon. I am also sleeping a lot more than before. The doctor has me on a low dow of Prednisone (I can't handle Prednisone very well so it is a very low dose) as well as Mobic twice a day. I have done some research about this condition on the web but am still really unsure as to what to expect from this condition. I was also wondering if anyone used alternative medicine and how it worked for them. Also, I feel that when I try to tell others that I am just not feeling well or that I am very stiff or sore, that they just don't understand and just think I am whining. I used to be able to walk around and shop for hours but now after a short time my lower back is very sore and I get very tired. Is this normal? Is the tiredness from the condition or maybe from the meds? Any information or advise is greatly appreciated. Debbie
Guest guest
I am new but I am not on meds and I am going to say that I am exhausted all the time. All the time.
