Guest guest
Hi: Welcome! Lots of folks are able to squeeze the capsule out into something their kid is eating (applesauce etc) w/no objection from the child. And sure if she is old enough to swallow it whole, or chew it, that would work too. My daughter is very picky - and can detect a new flavor from a mile away - so that method never worked for us (and she is too young to swallow capsule). We actually give it to her straight from a medicine dropper (we squeeze the capsule into the dropper). She didn't like it much at first (and I still think it tastes pretty gross even with the lemon - I take the capsules myself) but b/c we explained why she had to, and b/c we followed the same ritual every time we did it, she very quickly began to accept it as inevitable and now will run and get the bottle and the dropper when I tell her it's time and doesn't fuss about it. Also when I ask her if she remembers why we have to take it she says " hep ta " (help talk). BTW, she is 30 months old and has definitely had a language surge since we began a few months ago. At 26 months she had no intelligible words and grunted " eh eh " far more often than she attempted approximations. Now she has about 80 intelligible (anyone could understand) words and a ton of approximations. Also she has just begun to add 2 and sometimes 3 word combos. Not that I completely understand a kid who said a very clear " lay-dee-buh-ga " (ladybug) before she ever said " more " or " no " but I'm not complaining!! Good luck with it Josie [ ] ProEFA: How best to give it * Hello to Everyone, I've been reading some of the posts, what an incredible group of hard working and giving parents. I've just ordered ProEFA.
Guest guest
Hi, - As for the medical folks, we've had to educate our ped and other docs/therapists who've worked with Josh for 6 years - don't be surprised that the folks at your hospital didn't know anything about nutritional supps. Sadly, those types of subjects are not taught in most medical schools. As for giving the ProEFA - we've always just poked a hole in the cap with a pin and squirted it out onto Josh's applesauce or oatmeal in the morning (after the oatmeal has cooled a bit) - now we're also squirting a bit of ProEPA and putting his Carnaware on the morning stuff as well. We used to squirt the ProEFA into his milk but, personally, I couldn't stand the smell of the fish oil mixed with milk anymore even though it didn't bother him. Good luck! Keep us up to date on how things are going. Sherry <gina19@...> wrote: Hello to Everyone, I've been reading some of the posts, what an incredible group of hard working and giving parents. I've just ordered ProEFA. I'll be giving it to my 4.1 year old daughter who was diagnosed with Dyspraxia when she was 2. I would like to hear back from some users to find out how you give the supplement to your little ones. Can they swallow the pill, chew it? Add it to yogurt or applesauce? It is described as having a lemony flavor. Thanks for your help. Just as an aside, our original diagnosis was made at Children's Hospital in Seattle. This diagnosis followed two other conditions we were treated for there, my point being, they knew my daughters medical history very well. No one there ever suggested any thing about diet or supplements. Have others found this to be true as well?
Guest guest
I just clip the tip of the capsule with scissors, and had it to my son (age 4.3yo). He puts into his mouth and chews out the liquid. He use to spit out the capsule once he got all the oil out, but know he will chew and swallow. This is actually a huge step for him since he has major oral aversions, does not eat by mouth, and is g-tube fed. Guest guest
Hi, is there an easy place to learn about the supplements and what would be a good start? I can't seem to find a place to start this journey of learning about it all... haaa and (27mths)
Guest guest
Welcome and - you might want to pick up a copy of the books The Late Talker and The LCP Solution - both have valuable advice on the essential fatty acids (ProEFA is the type many of us here use - it's from a company named Nordic Naturals - you can look them up on their website, just plug in Nordic Naturals in your search engine - you can get basic info from them as well) and how they affect speech development -both really good starting points. It is definitely a journey with a winding path - welcome and good luck!
