Don't go Stacey as I appreciate your posts. I know I need to lose weight for

health

reasons but I hope you and Allan if not already gone stays. If we just remember

that all

the information is good and if not interested in a particular post one can

delete. I

learned well how to delete with the TV commercials and I know how to do it here,

LOL!!!

I often delete posts on insulin if too deep for me or even meds. But I don't

understand

some things and my eyes don't want to read anymore than I have to.

To get to my ideal weight I need to lose 130 pounds. That is my ideal weight

not what my dr thinks I need to lose. I have come to the conclusion I am to

lazy to lose it. I think about it. I actually sometimes get up in the morning

with all good intentions on watching what I eat but it never happens. When I

was first diagnosed in 1991, I went on my own version of a diet. I exercised

everyday for an h our at a local gym, and in 3 months I lost 52 pounds. Then I

hit that plateau. Nothing helped and I got discouraged. I gained it all back

plus some. Then about 2 or 3 years ago I got deathly ill, thought I was dying.

Dr.s couldnt find out what was wrong for a very long time. I lost 60 pounds.

Had a couple of surgeries including bypass and I weigh more now than I ever

have. I use food for a comfort thing and I have needed lots of comfort in the

last 3 years. I must lose weight. I can hardly do anything any more. But my

mind just isnt set to that mode. I so understand everyone's delima (sp). I

will not make excuses for myself tho.

I am hoping doesn't leave the list. I have been off and on this list

for a number of years, but personally I feel that it is the best it has ever

been right now.

Out of the 936 members we sure have a lot of lurkers that I would like to

see jump in once in a while.

But it IS a forum (a public meeting place for open discussion) and we can

join in, agree with each other or disagree. But what we can't do is tell

someone how to think or to think just like one person .

Jan: I hope you understand & don't feel that I sit in judgement of

anyone on the weight issue. I am NOT saying do as I do & I am not

saying one cannot get diabetes control unless you do because I don't

believe that is true.

My only concern in the issue Alan brought up was that some would be

likely to get very discouraged & perhaps angry if they went thru the

weight loss struggle & then discovered that it did not really help their

control all that much as happened to me.

I think that doctor's keep singing that refrain because they always

have, not because they know absolutely, scientifically that it is true.

As we have all discovered one has to take whatever the medicos say with

a big grain (perhaps a sack full) of salt & not believe everything they

say just because it comes from " professionals " .

One does what one can when one can.

I agree absolutely Jo-- " my way or the highway " is not the appropriate

adult response. It is a bit childish to expect that others will conform

their viewpoint to one's own just because one thinks the medical

establishment sanctions that opinion.

However I think Alan just wanted to stop being attacked for expressing

his own view. This could have been accomplished by blocking certain

posters or he could have accepted that others had the right to differing

views & learned to ignore them.

Cappie, I have to disagree with your statement about the diabetic

trigger turned on by obesity. I think it's probably the other way

around: diabetes causes weight gain and also makes it hard to lose

weight. In any case, it was not true for me, because I was never obese.

I think that I became overweight as a result of diabetes. I think mine

might have started when I was in my thirties, when I weighed about 125.

In looking back, I can see lots of signs that I didn't know were signs

of diabetes. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Sue I will have to find the source for my statement. The study was

released just a month or so ago. It found that once that genetic switch

was triggered by obesity that it could not be turned off again. Of

course that explains why there is no cure yet for the diseasse outside

of transplants.

This is why if one is predisposed to diabetes it is so important to

delay the triggering by maintaining a heathy weight & a lower carb

lifestyle.

Sue--of course not every T2 is obese but the majority are. The obesity

worsens as uncontrolled diabetes causes uncontrolled hunger.

I am sure that there are other pathways that trigger the disease in lean

T2's. Of course you may have been originally been a LADA who progressed

rapidly also. Who knows?
