Oh sky I play peek a boo with the same 3 lbs over & over & over. I

figiure that this is better than holding on & adding more tho so I

stuggle on.

Having an insulin substitute that encourages weight loss is nice to

think about for the future however.

My carb intake has gone up a bit since I discovered the Natural Ovens

Bakery " Carb-Conscious Golden Crunch Bread " (and bagels). Someone on this

list first mentioned them and after I ordered some of the bagels from their

website I found that my local store carried both the bagels *and* the

bread. I've been enjoying a sandwich now and then. It only has 3 net carbs

per slice and is full of sunflower seeds, millet, flax seed, oat groats

(whatever they are) and more. I need to take the time some day to check the

impact on me but lately I've never been willing to eat just one slice of

the bread and then check every 15 minutes for several hours. I'm also not

wanting to find out that I react badly to it since it tastes so good (not

sweet like every other LC bread I've tried). Well, I sound like an ad for

them, don't I?

I had a point to make here, but now I've forgotten it. Oh yes...I'm envious

of your A1C of 5. I almost got my doctor to promise to take me out for

sushi if I got to that. Then he turned around, walked back down the hall to

where I was and said " but I don't care for sushi. " Hehh heh. Maybe I can

get him to take me out for lobster or something like that. But if I'm going

to get down to a 5 I think I'll have to cut carbs to where there is quite a

bit of " quality of life " missing. I'm taking max metformin...2000mg of the

XR daily.

At least I'm off of that BP med that made me sick to my stomach and my

scalp itchy. That was nasty.

Cappie, you are at my ideal weight, but I am 10 pounds over it (I am

5'6 " ). I was just 5 pounds over it for several years, and lately I've

gained 5 pounds and have been struggling to make it go away, but I'm

afraid it insists on staying! It's so frustrating! I know that if I

don't lose it, it will invite a few friends, LOL.

Insulin has been good to me. An A1c of 5.4 Monday and a gain of 18 lbs

since June 2004.

Yes, that DOES sound good, doesnt' it? The idea of weight gain when I'm

trying so hard to lose a few pounds (and I've gained back some of them

again! GRrrrrr) is the only thing that turns me off of the thought of

insulin some day in the future.

No sky my A1c is not yet a 5% even--it is in the low 5's. I have to go

on Tues for my newest & I'm not sure what it will be since I had that 6

week long bout of gastroparesis-like symptoms which raised my bg's quite

a bit.

Plus of course I just celebrated Greek Easter with feasting at my

in-laws. This included lots of carby stuff including some special honey

dipped cookies.

Ah well--I will just have to struggle on as usual.

Ah Sue you are a good six inches taller than me--my ideal weight

according to the tables is 105 which has never & will never happen!

At one time I did hope I'd be able to get to 120 or 125 tho. Guess that

is not going to happen either.

Yummy! I've yet to feel good enough to go with a friend to a restrauant

and celebrate a belated birthday (my 66th, last April 19th) with

washtub-sized margaritas and yes, I've decided...loaded potato skins.

Sinning on occasion keeps me sane.

I didn't gain weight from using increasing amounts of insulin. YMMV on this,

as with everything.

And I was under the impression that the studies that linked increased heart

trouble with increased insulin use didn't allow for well controlled diabetics.

In other words, if one is an uncontrolled diabetic using insulin, heart

disease or heart events increase, but the reality is that it's more than likely

the increased BG not the insulin use that is causing the increased heart

disease.

I'll have to look some of this up.
