Guest guest
Oh dear one, you still have many years ahead and with Armour you can combat many of the issues you state. And Caroline, Armour costs HALF the amount that Synthroid does if you can get a prescription. Go to the LINKS section and then to the Armour locate-a-doc and see who is the closest doc to you that will prescribe Armour. I drive one hour and 20 minutes to mine and it's worth it. And if worse comes to worse, many folks here self-treat. Armour can be gotten at myrxforless...but I'd like to see you try to get an Armour doc first. As far as the bursitis, I, too have it in my fingers (tendonitis), shoulders etc, but have found near complete relief over and over by taking 2 capsules of ginger daily. It can take at least 2-3 weeks before you notice a difference, but when the difference comes, it is truly amazing that something so simple can help. Ginger is a wonderful anti-inflamatory substance that, for me, works. But...Armour is even better for other issues you state. You will be AMAZED what it can do for you. My life turned around 360 degrees when I switched from Synthroid to Armour. When you do start on Armour, stay in touch so we can help you. Funny thing is that most of know MUCH more than most docs do on this subject. You hang in there sweet one. The Knight in Shining ARMOUR is your hope. It works. Guest guest
Caroline, I'm so glad to see you made it. I've filled you in somewhat about how I've had to deal with self medicating, but I think Armour is so worth it. I'm like Janie, I'd love to see you find a dr who will give you the prescription, but when all else fails, there is a way. I can so relate to hurting, not getting any relief, and in my case the dr just looking at me and saying, you don't need any thyroid medication, cuz your in the 'normal' range. he was only looking at TSH (sigh). I was so disgusted, I could have slapped him! lol. His insistance, and my symptoms, with no relief are what helped me to find this site. I have no clue who I heard about this site from, but I will be forever grateful! It took a while of reading and trying to digest it all, but I finally took the plunge in April 2004, and ordered the Armour when I couldn't get a prescription. I wouldn't give up my Armour now, for any amt of money! And as somebody just mentioned, I agree, Endo's are idiots! :-) SandyE~Houston Hello, I'm new here... AMA physicians yet. Guest guest
Please, switch to Armour and if you can, slowly adjust the dose up untill you feel best. The doses most common before the TSH test were between 3 and 5 grains, with some people needing more. The healthy thyroid produces around 4-1/2 to 5 grains a day. You cannot overdose on less. This is because your thyroid will drop production by whatever you are taking to keep blood levels below 4-1/2 to 5 grains. People have huge differences in thyroid needs, so these numbers above are general. If you have problems with smaller doses of thryoid, this usually means that you have adrenal fatigue or anemia or other problems interfering. This means then that you will need to increase doses very slowly and in very small increments, whatever you can tolerate. Adrenal fatigue is very common in long standing hypothyroidism. I really think that many of your health problems will improve greatly. Especially joint problems. It sure did for me. Your mental health should also improve if you can get your dose up high enough. Depression is a symptom of low thyroid. The brain is being deprived of oxygen and energy. I would suggest that you add meditation, yoga, or Tai Chi, and skilled relaxation to your daily routine. These can all be learned from library books and so don't cost anything. This is very important for someone who has become sort of cut off due to illness. It will help with the losses. The reason is that in chronic fatigue, there seems to be an element of loss and/or sometimes trauma that plays into it. It has an effect on the brain, which carries into the energy systems of the body. Sadness, losses and trauma seem to overwhelm the pituitary and hypothalamus and they are the master endocrine controllers. Meditation is capable of clearing out some of this disturbance. I became sick myself after a family tragedy and several losses in a short period. Many specialists have found that people with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia have a common denominator of sad, painful, truamatic events and of deep losses, especially loss of love. Some have said that people who suffer from this have had a lifetime of being concerned with others to the exclusion of themselves, and of type A behavior and demanding perfection from themselves. They say the disease is a wake up call that it is time to take time out for yourself and to care for yourself. It is also thought that it is a kind of burnout. Anyway, I think there is hope as I have seen it. When you are sick, it is very difficult to fight to turn it around. There just is no energy for it. After a long time of sickness, it starts to seem like no efforts on your part makes any difference. But, I do think there is hope for a life to go in a direction never imagined and to become totally new. Try to do as much as you can to try and get out of the black hole. Guest guest
Hi Caroline! Soooo happy to see you over here too!! I see more of your history here, and the spousal abuse and bad marriages I can identify with. Yrs of this kind of stress help to cause the things that have happened to our bodies, and the diseases we have. It looks like you have at least 3 autoimmune diseases---Hypo (if autoimmune), Rheumatoid, and Scleroderma, at least. We have these things sitting on our chromosomes, but the things that happen to us bring them forward more. I believe that the cause of much of your symptoms is chronic undertreated thyroid disease, maybe as far back as the back problems you were describing earlier. Guest guest
H i, Caroline, Bio-identical hormones are hormones that are made from soy or yams and made identical to our hormones in the lab. However, they are not synthetic like the drug companies. (Premarin is natural but it's bio-identical to horses not us.) We have 3 estrogens: estradiol, estrone, & estriol. But horses have 7 estrogens. These bio-identical hormones work in our bodies the way our hormones produced by the body always worked. I was tested by ZRT labs for mine. But you can either check with them for doctors in your area who prescribe bio-identical hormones or check with the women's international pharmacy. Check Google.com for their addies. Hope this helps. Best to you! in Va. Hi , Thanx for the response. What are bio-identical hormones & where do you get them? Blessings, Caroline
Guest guest
Okay thx . Sounds like if I've been taking only the estradiol, I've been missing out on estrone & estriol so still have had a hormonal imbalance. Does that sounds right? I will try ZRT labs for doctors in my area first. But if this gets much more complicated, I'll just give up altogether. I'm already in overwhelm here & can't keep up with all this. Guest guest
N ot necessarily. My pharmacist was going to give me the estradiol cream but asked about the estriol because it is better at preventing cancer so he gave me Bi-est which contains both. He says that estradiol does a better job at fighting the side effects of estrogen deficiency like hot flashes etc. You are taking progesterone, right? Natural progesterone, that is. I think you know how important that is if you are using estrogen. I sure hope you find something that works for you! in Va. Okay thx . Guest guest
No...I'm not now & never have taken progesterone because I had a hysterectomy that caused the estrogen deficiency & no more periods with no uterus. I'm have horrible hot flashes/sweats since I've been off the Estradiol, about two months now. What I need is a good doctor who knows how to test & prescribe for ALL my hormonal needs, thyroid, adrenals include. Lotsa luck, huh? What are the chances I'll ever find one I can get to? Might as well kiss my life goodbye at this rate. RE: Hello, I'm new here... N ot necessarily. Guest guest
Progesterone does a lot more than just taking care of the uterus, and it is the first hormone that most of us lose. Uterus or not, I'm doing the progesterone cream, with good results, but I haven't been on it but the 30 days, so far. It has improved my sleep tremendously.
