Guest guest
Be very careful looking on this list for a 'good Endo, it's unreliable. You won't know it till you get there and find out that said dr's aren't near as good as some say they are. My first Endo was on this list because I put him on there. After I got past the hyperT/Graves, a year +some months, he refused to give me anything because he only looked at my TSH which was 3.17 and in 'normal' range. lol. He said my labs didn't 'justify his giving me any thyroid medication " at that time, but when the need arose, he'd happily give me a prescription for Synthroid or levoxyl. I had to fire him at that point. My FreeT3 and FreeT4 weren't in the upper ranges, and I felt it, daily. ughh. He is a TSH nazi, and I hate to admit that, cuz he's excellent treating hyperT with atd's. Really knows his stuff once you get him off his RAI kick. (Insurance changed, he wasn't on it) In pursuit to find my first Dr Dummie, known as second Endo. (when he was trying to talk me into RAI, he told me I could have Armour, which he laughed at when I finally needed something) and he wouldn't give me anything? I was however offered other forms of replacment therapy as long as they were T4. Hmmmm. He speaks out of both sides of mouth in my opinion. lol. Second Endo I saw was on this list also. He only tested TSH, T3 And T4. I was hyperT at the time, on atd's & his treatment was disastrous for me. I fired him. He would test, see that my TSH was up by not reducing atd's, Tsh would rise, then he take me off the meds? Due to the never decreasing the atd's, he would make me hypoT. Lived that way for over a year, and had to fire him. He just flat doesn't know what he's doing with different forms of thyroid problems. He definately had no clue about HyperT/Graves, but never said a word about his lack of knowledge. Double ughhh. He is into diabetes and making the first pump that you can now use if you're diabetic. I'm proud for him in his accomplishments, but he's a real airhead in my books. He told me I was not 'fitting into his treatment plan at all? " . rofl. Third Endo on this list......got rave reviews. She found out I was self medicating with Armour after about 5-6 weeks on it, and about had a nervous breakdown hollering at me for taking such a 'God forsaken' thyroid drug much less, without a proper prescription. After listening to her for about an hour, on " there is no such thing as 's syndrome, Armour Is Bad, Levoxyl & Synthroid are great, and this is what you'll take (levoxyl)......but no more self medicating! The straw that broke the camels back was when she told me that people wanted " cocaine legalized, so they could feel good too " in reference to me or anybody taking Armour? roflmao. I laughed at this one uncontrollably. Never pay a dr to brow beat you. This woman was really good at it. She's very insecure on you knowing 'anything' about thyroid problems and plainly stated that it was 'not for the layperson'. It is for her, and dr's like her to learn about. She also stated that there was 'NO such thing as problems converting T4 to T3 " . hmmm. She's another loser. Stick a fork in me, I'm not shopping for dr's to be treated as if I'm a moron and don't know what hypoT symptoms are. Had to live that way too long because of a dr's stupidity. If they don't want us to learn how crummy of care they give, then they should learn more, we did? Would love to know how she got on that list and just how well her patients are really doing. Her levoxyl after being on Armour ( I did give Levoxyl one week) and it failed miserably, was like a joke to my body. It rebelled? lol. That list can be added to by anybody who works in a dr's office, or anybody who has no clue what type of treatment they are getting. My first Dr was great with hyperT, and he knew what he was doing, and I put him on that list. But the protocol they follow in that office wasn't going to allow him to treat me for hypoT when I finally stayed hypo, as they refused to look at symptoms. When you really need thyroid supplement is when you find out just what your dr is made of, in my opinion. I have no more time to waste traveling from dr to dr. I took Armour after coming here, reading and learning. It's not something i jumped into, but it was the right decision for me. I don't regret it in the least, and I've got autoimmune antibodies which may destroy my thyroid. My new insurance will require that I pay out the first 2,500.00 dollars of any treatment so I see no sense in me continuing to run from physician to physician. They will end up with my money and I've got much better uses for it. :-) I can order more armour. lol I'm finding that if you really want a dr to prescribe Armour who's not so opposed to it, best to go directly to armourthyroid.com and find a dr in your zip code. Call your local pharmacy, or go in, ask do they know of a dr who is good about prescribing armour. If you have a good relationship with the pharmacist, they will check for you. A dr who only writes a few scripts for it concerns me. He may not have a clue but only does it to appease, and may not want to dose accordingly, thereby keeping you feeling bad. This is a great place for help on how to dose, and what to expect. If you want to find a dr who knows more about Armour and does dose by symptoms, not relying strictly on TSH, then go to www.broadabarnes.com and pay the 15.00 for a list of dr's in your area who knows what he/she is doing and knows how to treat the broda barnes way. Holistic dr's who also treat by symptoms is another good dr if they aren't opposed to Armour. Janie's list is a good one too by the way on the things to ask the Dr. If he/she is intimated, you'll know it real quick. One day I may find one! :-) SandyE~Houston Here's help to those looking for good Thyroid doctor. Look in the files section under Good Docs to see if there's one in your area and if he's on your HMO. Also see: http://thyroid.about.com/cs/doctors/a/topdocs.htm For a list of top doctors by state. I found out my doctor is listed there with several good reviews! This list didn't state if these doctors prescribe Armour and symptoms. You'd need to ask. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guest guest
Hi, Sandy, Oh, now I get it! We have hypothyroidism. We are not expected to ever feel good! LOL So is she admitting Armour makes us feel good? Gee, we can't let THAT happen! in Va. with Armour after about 5-6 weeks on it, and about had a nervous breakdown hollering at me for taking such a 'God forsaken' thyroid drug much less, without a proper prescription. After listening to her for about an hour, on " there is no such thing as 's syndrome, Armour Is Bad, Levoxyl & Synthroid are great, and this is what you'll take (levoxyl)......but no more self medicating!
