Yes I have been to a couple rhuematologist since getting the

hives 2 yrs. ago. The first one after having severe joint pain [hip,

knees, and feet.] The only thing that helped my hive was prednisone.

Antihistamines did nothing at all. After a year and a half on pred. I

decided not to take it because of the side effects I was dealing

with. The rhuematologist ran a bunch of tests and did extensive blood

work. All of witch was normal. I and my Dr. decided to use plaquinil

and dapsone and wean off the pred. I had read here that it was

sometimes used for urticaria. The fact that it has allowed me to come

off the pred. and i now have a positive ANA now has sent me to the

second rhumatologist. Plaquinil is a med used for Lupis and a

positive ANA and other Lupis like symtems warrented looking closer

but after more tests she says i don't have enough smptems to be

diagnosed with Lupis but she can not rule it out completely. It is a

great releaf to be off the pred. and pretty much hive free since Jan.

first. I think seeing a rhumatologist is a wise choice and wish you

well along with everyone on this list.

Tina, My daughter saw a rhuemotologist and he was useless and told me

Alena's emmotions were the cause of all of her hives. She was around 3

months old when they started so he was so full of crap. However, I do

believe that a good one could be very useful. Best of Luck~~Alena's

Dear Tina,

My heart goes out to you. I have had hives off and on since 1987. I do

believe a rheumotologist might be helpful, might not, depending on his

insights. Doctors have different slants on diseases.

Things that have helped me thorough the years, but not always effective for

each outbreak are: lecithin, prednisone (bad, but it saves my sanity),

kenalog shots after a prednisone course, a visit to a wonderful clinic in

Arizona called ARC. They pattern their treatments after the findings of

Edgar Cache. They were so kind to me and I felt wonderful after a week

there. They did tests most Dr's don't i.e. blood tests to determine vitamin

and minerals, hormonal levels, etc. I can tell you more about this if you

are interested.

Keep searching, there is a reason somewhat in your body.

Love, Suzanne

Tina,

You have had every test possible? Would you share them with us? I'm collecting test info--don't have enough to do I guess. but, I do think this is a very key point in solving why Urticaria is a symptom.

Thank you, Patti
