Guest guest
Sue - I have heard other parents' cry about the same problem - how to they give one sibling high calorie, high fat foods and not the other sibling. I can't even imagine having to deal with that. I do know that sometimes I will sneak a Reese's peanut butter cup when Ty is in another room. She knows it is our secret... Guest guest
My fifteen year old daughter has a weight problem. I am sure it is because we have always kept high calorie foods around for Max and she has been sneaking them. It is my worst nightmare for her. When she was younger, I could tell her to stay away from Max's foods and she would. Now, as a teenager, who is usually a hungry animal by nature, she craves anything and everything. No amount of negotiating works, either. I finally had to sit her down and tell her the truth. I will not pressure her into losing weight, as that can cause other problems, but it hurts me to see my beautiful daughter " blowing up " these days. The good news is that Jenna is good natured about all of this and is trying. For example, she is going bowling with her friends tonight instead of the movies because it involves more movement. And she does take two dance classes a week. But I guess this is another thing that RSS does to families. Guest guest
Y'know, you PARENTS are giving this grown-up RSS kid a real guilt trip <G>. I didn't eat from age birth to 10 and 45 minutes at the kitchen table, to eat 1/2 of a PBJ sandwich with the crusts cut off was not unusual. I'm an only child (they tried, but mom never got pregnant again...which now sounds somewhat typcial for RSS mothers?) so I didn't have an " " to want to eat what I wasn't eating...but I had a mother who did. And for my entire teenage and adult life, she reminded me that she was overweight because she'd sit with me for all thos hours upon hours, over 10 years, trying to get me to eat...and she'd wind up eating it. Now, my mother, being Jewish, is the QUEEN of Jewish Guilt...and although the Guilt worked on me when I was little (figuratively speaking, of course), I had become rather thick- skinned to her attempts MANY years ago. NOW you tell me that YOU have family members who are overweight because of your RSS child. I feel so horrible now <wink>. (BTW, she was also overweight for the 31 years of life she had BEFORE I was born <G>) -Sharon-
Guest guest
Hey Sharon Don't kid yourself. My mom NEVER had her own plate of food when we 3 girls were growing up. She ate what we didn't.(My dad, the ultimate in strange birds, didn't get home until after 6--too late for us to wait to eat, and he always had cheese and ketchup sandwiches at exactly 9 o'clock each night with a cup of coffee??? yeh that's weird). Now that I'm raising my two on my own, I find the exact same thing. I never know when I cook dinner what is going to be a hit (ie. we want seconds and poor mom ate a plate of food and now there are no 'seconds') or they will leave their plates uneaten. So now, I feed them, and whatever is still hanging around after an hour becomes " mom's dinner " . We sacrifice so much for you kids--and what thanks do we get??? <just joking>> Debby sharon_kurland@... wrote: > Y'know, you PARENTS are giving this grown-up RSS kid a real guilt > trip <G>. > > I didn't eat from age birth to 10 and 45 minutes at the kitchen > table, to eat 1/2 of a PBJ sandwich with the crusts cut off was not > unusual. Guest guest
Although cheese and ketchup sound really gross to me, I have to admit that my father's favorite meal was always spaghetti with butter and ketchup. Would you believe that Max loves it, too? Jodi Re: Re: other family members' weight gain > >Date: Fri, 23 Feb 2001 23:26:52 -0500 > > > >Hey Sharon > >Don't kid yourself. Guest guest
Hi Nikki, I think if you add a bun, soy meal and saw dust, then I think Mac's calls that a cheese burger !!
