Guest guest
Lyrica (pregabalin) is supposed to be a little better than it's preacessor Gabapentin/neurontin as far as side effects. You need smaller doses to get the same result so therefore less side effects. If you feel you really need it maybe just try as small a dose as possible. Personally, I went up to 3600 mg. of Gabapentin and then discovered my pain wasn't nuerological (I have Lyme). I was just about to try the Lyrica. My brother in law that DOES have neurological pain swithced from Gabapentin to Lyrica and is in total heaven. (of course his pain is not related to a vulva LOL) I hope whatever you decide works out for you. Mojo (Molly) > > Hi everyone. Guest guest
Thanks for your reply. It seems that countless individuals, unfortunately are having the same weight gain, that I can get from the Med I must take (postings on a medical website) However, I will check out more results and consider the dosage also, as I know lyrica is very successful for neuropathic pain, many times. Guest guest
That's good to hear. My doc just switched me to Lyrica and I'm weaning off of desipramine and elavil now. Guest guest
I asked Dr. when I went on the Elavil if it would make me gain weight and she said, "Not if you don't eat more." Is that true? Do the drugs just make us crave food more or do they actually change the metabolism? Lyrica - Weight Gain? Hi everyone. I posted this message on another website. If you got read it there, you can delete this message. For any others, here is my question:I have been considering taking Lyrica for some months now. However, I know that it causes weight gain for some folks - similiar to the psychotropic meds, i.e...Elavil.I have absolutely no problem taking meds. for vulvodynia. The problem is, I already take a medication that puts an additional 15 lbs on, for every increased mgrm. And,this particular medication I take, CANNOT be changed to something different.Currently, my weight is not too bad, but if I add another potential weight gainer, it might put me into health risk catagories, associated with weight gain. I cannot take SSRIs.Any takers? Thanks and hugs :)Snofyre00
Guest guest
Just my opinion, but I have been on a lot of these drugs and the only one I gained weight on was Effexor. I gained 25lbs in 6 months. But I have to say, I think the drugs make you crave food. For me, it was sweets, and everything just seemed to taste so good! Tasted great, so I just ate more of it. I think if you realize this going in and practice self-control you won't have any problem. I have been in so much pain lately, that I have the opposite problem, can't eat and now I am underweight and look bony. nne > > I asked Dr. when I went on the Elavil if it would make me gain weight and she said, " Not if you don't eat more. Guest guest
It depends on the drug, I think. Some make you hungry but others (like Effexor) do something in your body that make you gain weight no matter how much you eat. My twin explained the Effexor thing to me as her sister in law is on it and she did the research (obviously her explation was better than mine!) > > I asked Dr. when I went on the Elavil if it would make me gain weight and she said, " Not if you don't eat more. Guest guest
I took Lyrica for about 6 months and didn't gain an ounce. Actually, during that period of time I lost about 5 pounds. > >Reply-To: VulvarDisorders >To: VulvarDisorders >Subject: Lyrica - Weight Gain? >Date: Sun, 07 Jan 2007 02:31:14 -0000 > >Hi everyone.
