Guest guest
Me again :-} I just received some information from a Dad who's child suffer's from ear infections almost as bad as does, he's from the states, and he mentioned a vaccine for kids to help build up their immune system to prevent these ear infections. The vaccine is called PNEUMOVAC. Has anyone heard of this or has a child who's taken it? I can't find any info on this, but i'm sure this group with it's many fact-finders can hopefully find something of this nature. I would appreciate any information anyone can come up with. Guest guest
Liz, Thank you for the input. :-) will be having a follow up with our ent in a few weeks and I will be writing these down and bringing them up to him for his consideration. If anything out there can help him resist these infections, i'll try anything about now. :-< Thank you again Nikki-mom to 6, and Nala the cat >From: twinks898@... >Reply-To: RSS-Support >To: RSS-Support >Subject: Re: New Vaccine?? >Date: Fri, 2 Mar 2001 14:41:48 EST > >Nikki- we just had our baby get a new vaccine called Prevnar. Guest guest
Nikki, The pneumovax is a vaccine we frequently give to the elderly population. It has been around for at least the 8 years I've been a nurse. I don't know if it has been given for children as long. I want to say it only requires a booster every 6 years in adults. It is helps prevent against the bacteria that prevents pneumonia. When I go back to work (8weeks ffrom now) I will get a package insert for you! New Vaccine?? Guest guest
also had the Prevnar vaccine with no complications. He has also not had an ear infection since! Re: New Vaccine?? Nikki- we just had our baby get a new vaccine called Prevnar. I believe that it is supposed to prevent ear infections by preventing the bug that causes them to take hold. It also prevents a bad form of meningitis. Since the bug is the pneumococcus, this could be what your friend was talking about. I just looked it up and it is only given to kids over 2 who are " at risk " . Hope this helps, Liz-Mom of Nate(?RSS)and Sam-29 month old twins and Arianna-9months

Guest guest
Hi Just a couple of questions about .. How many ear infections did he have prior to the vaccine? How long has it been since the last ear infection due to the vaccine? How old is now? It would be so great if could have this vaccine... but i'm also wondering why his ENT didn't suggest this before? I will be requesting this on our next visit to clinic!! Thanks for the advice and Twinkletoes (Liz) lol Nikki-mom to the destroyer of bedrooms and living rooms, and Nala the destroyer of my couch grrrr >^..^< - who me? > >Reply-To: RSS-Support >To: <RSS-Support > >Subject: RE: New Vaccine?? >Date: Tue, 6 Mar 2001 22:27:04 -0600 > > also had the Prevnar vaccine with no complications. Guest guest
My daughter Kaitlyn was given Prevnar at 15 months and 18 months. She had no complications from it and cranky and irritable. My doctor told me that he was recommending for prevention and that it may soon be required for when she goes to school. Kailtyn only had 1 ear infection before she was given the shot and we haven't had any after the shot. Guest guest
Nikki, Josh had 4 or 5 proir to the prevnar vaccine. If I remember correctly the vaccine may have been off the market for a brief time or something related to insurance reimbursement. He has had one mild infection since the vaccine. Josh is now 26 months old. Re: New Vaccine?? > > > Nikki- we just had our baby get a new vaccine called Prevnar.
