I've just looked at this (ivillage.co.uk), it's Hill " antenatal

expert " . Great quotes include:

On antenatal classes:

" Hospital classes are generally sound, though sometimes unexciting, and

have the advantage of familiarising you with names, faces and the building

where it’s ultimately all going to happen. "

" Be very wary of classes that assume you can choose the kind of labour you

will have. "

" Good classes recognise that it is in your interests to have realistic

expectations, which means you will be prepared for a range of

eventualities. " - fine but no mention of the NCT

On homebirth:

" Toying with the idea of a home birth? Hill takes you through the

pros and cons:

If it is your first baby, think very carefully about this. "

" Of course, if your labour doesn’t go as quickly as it should, and you need

an epidural because you are exhausted, unwilling to cope with more pain or

your midwife is not happy about your baby, you can always be transferred to

hospital. But wouldn’t it have been better to start off there in the first

place? "

" It is really not a good idea to opt for a home birth without the backing of

your GP "

" If your present GP will not change his mind, and he can’t persuade you to

change yours, you will need to try and find another GP who is prepared to

let you have your baby at home, "

" Failing this, why don’t you talk to the hospital midwife and ask her if

there are any other options she could suggest. In some hospitals, they run

what is called a domino scheme. This type of care generally means a midwife

comes to your home when you are in labour. She takes you into hospital at

the end of your labour, and you deliver your baby in hospital – where

everything is on hand in case of an unexpected problem. If all is well, you

only stay in hospital for a few hours before returning home. This could be

the best of both worlds. "

Methinks this lady is *not* in favour of having babies at home.

There don't appear to be any links at all but surely the NCT should be

mentioned *somewhere*?
