Guest guest
OK, so this is something I've been wondering for a long time....How does one heal a leaky gut? I know that if gluten is part of the issue then when you stop eating it your gut will slowly heal, though it will take months or longer. But other than that what is one to do? Does anyone know? > > Arline, > I've been reading some stuff online about leaky gut syndrome... and the stuff I read is interesting because it basically says leaky gut syndrome causes a lot of food allergies and intolerances... apparently, a whole lot of people have it and don't know it. I've never been tested either. It could be that's what was going on with the guy you mentioned below too.... > does the gluten intolerance cause the leaky gut or the other way around? > I found this yesterday.. > SNIP SNIP
Guest guest
-p[ --- femifesto wrote: If one has a healthy diet--doesn't eat the known bad things--but has gluten sensitivity and eats gluten, that is all it likely takes. If one has other intolerances like dairy then that should be identified. But beyond the autoimmune reactions to ones own personal list of foods she cannot eat, I would say don't abuse your body with nonfoods and processed foods. Sometimes if one is sensitive to gluten she is also sensitive to other grains and maybe other starches. Everybody is different and it needs to be explored individually. I do better not eating any grains of any kind but gluten and dairy are the ones that will kill me pretty quickly. If somebody's gut is damaged beyond repair, that is another story. That fact is when the gut is damaged, one can have all kinds of other problems--enzyme deficiencies, nutritional deficits which cause anything from bone deterioration to kidney stones, anemia, hormone disruption,--basic bad things happen, thyroid destruction, --all of it. People use probiotics like Culturelle but you have to be careful there because most of them contain yeasts that you can be sensitive to also. JUst my opinion. Guest guest
These too: Beneficial Supplements for Leaky Gut Syndrome Natural digestive enzymes - from plant (e,g, bromelain, papain) or pancreatic animal tissues (porcine, bovine, lamb) and aloe vera juice with a high MPS concentration (good brands are International Aloe, Earthnet and Royal) stomach acidity enhancing supplements - betaine and pepsin, glutamic acid, stomach bitters, apple cider vinegar amino acids - L-glutamine, N-acetyl-glucosamine (NAG) essential fatty acids - milled flax, flax seed oil, evening primrose oil, borage oil, olive oil, fish oils, black currant seed oil soluble fiber - psyllium seed husks and powder, apple or citrus pectin, the rice derived gamma oryzanol, antioxidants - carotenoids, B complex, vitamin C, E, zinc, selenium, germanium, Coenzyme Q10, bioflavonoids, especially quercetin, catechin, hesperidin, rutin and proanthocyanidins (pycnogenols, grape seed extract, pine bark extract, bilberry) herbs and plant extracts - kudzu, various high chlorophyll containing green drinks like spirulina, chlorella and blue green algae, burdock, slippery elm, Turkish rhubarb, sheep sorrel, licorice root, ginger root, goldenseal, bismuth and bentonite. Combination Green Foods - two excellent products are Green Life (Bioquest) and Greens Plus (Supplements Plus) Due to the increasing recognition of chronic fatigue syndrome, the leaky gut syndrome and multiple chemical sensitivity, a number of supplement companies have been marketing powdered hypoallergenic formulations containing most of the nutrients mentioned above in one convenient package. Some brand names include Ultrabalance®, UltraClear Sustain®, UltraClear Plus®, Pro-Cleanse®, Pro-Support® and ActiClear®. The products are only available through natural health care practitioners like chiropractors, nutritional doctors and naturopaths. If you suspect you may be suffering from leaky gut syndrome, the most important thing to do is get yourself tested by a natural health care practitioner. A personalized natural program of diet and supplements can then be instituted to help you reverse this debilitating condition. Re: Leaky Gut It takes more than just stopping gluten. Guest guest
Leaky gut is just another name for IBS just like spastic colon. The causes of IBS are varied one of them being Celiac. In my case it was from a sugar overdose in 1994, meaning that I had two very super sweet desserts back to back instead of spreading them out more carefully. But for other women (and yes, I fall in to this category too) having endometriosis can affect the bowel by causing IBS. Guest guest
That's interesting.. thanks. Sugar must be a big one too... I have been known to consume mass quantities of sweet tea in a day. : - ) Hmmm.. maybe that's why I have a food allergy to tea now. I'll be interested to see Mon if I have parasites... the main reason I think I might is when I took the First Cleanse I started coughing up this stuff that felt like sand in the back of my throat... I stuck my finger in my throat... lots of white specs on my finger, flat and oval-shaped. It wasn't salt and didn't look like anything I'd seen before. After two days of constant coughing I stopped the cleanse. Kind of creepy although my Mom tells me almost everybody has some type of parasite, some more than one. I've heard they even sometimes infect people with hookworms intentionally because it's supposed to keep them from having auto-immune symptoms like asthma... odd. We'll see.... just seemed like a good avenue to pursue. Re: Leaky Gut Leaky gut is just another name for IBS just like spastic colon. The causes of IBS are varied one of them being Celiac. Guest guest
, The problem in my case was that the desserts I ate that were super sweet I just didn't give myself enough of a break between eating them. I still have some desserts on occasion but I just make sure to be careful if I know I'm going to have a really super sweet one. It was a friend that told me that I overdosed on sugar. And yes, I've learned my lesson. I wish you well in trying to get your situation figured out.
