Guest guest
Laurie, I took a look at the chair on the internet. This is a very nice chair. I like the removable armrests on my scooter and think it is the best think for transferring. You need to get the chair that's best for you though. Did they say why the felt you should have the removable armrests? Alice < They suggested a removable arm rest, instead of the flip up kind. As I think about it, I am wondering if that will be the best choice, as I will have to transfer in and out of it in the van several times a day. >
Guest guest
Alice His reasoning didn't make a lot of sense to me. He said it looked better and would keep a skirt in place. Since I don't wear skirts, that isn't an issue. How do you handle the controls when you have to transfer to the right with the removable arms? laurie > > Reply-To: > Date: Tue, 26 Aug 2003 00:27:44 -0000 > To: > Subject: Re: power wheelchair > > Laurie, > > I took a look at the chair on the internet. Guest guest
-Hi Laurie, i don't really know much about this. My chair is a Jazzy 1121. it has power and suspension enough for outside and inside use. The arms flip up. I am just getting my lift tomorrow so I'm not sure if I have to flip the arms up for it to go in the van or not. I know the chair back had to be adjusted so that it will flip down so it will fit better in the back of the van. The lift will be a back loading one.How easy would it be to take the arms off and refix them?it might be rather a pain if you have to take them on and off each tme you load and unload the cahir. Guest guest
Celia Thanks for the input. My chair will have a tilt in space with a high back and head rest. Getting a van that will accomodate this is my next step. I was all set to call and ask for the flip up kind of arm rests and then realized while using my scooter this morning, that the height of the arms on the removable ones can be adjusted and the flip up kind can't. I am tall and the flip ups on my scooter aren't high enough to rest my arms comfortably and with using controls on the arm rest, my arms need to be at the right height. So I only called to change the color from teal to viper blue (will go better with denim which I wear alot) and add a cup holder. Thanks for your response. I will look forward to hearing how you like your new van. What company conversion will it have and on what brand of van? laurie > > Reply-To: > Date: Tue, 26 Aug 2003 16:07:07 -0000 > To: > Subject: Re: power wheelchair > > -Hi Laurie, i don't really know much about this. Guest guest
Laurie, I have the flip up arm rests on my chair...both sides even with the control connected, and the height of the arm rests can be adjusted. Guest guest
Dear laurie, I'm glad you sorted out the question of the arms on yur chair. i agree, it has to be just the right height to operate the controls comfortably. My chair is viper blue too. I am very excitd about getting the lift put in later today. I'm going to be able to go places and do things I haven't for a long time. Our van is a Crysler Town and Country (we were told that it and the Dodge caravans were the best to convert) and the lift is going to be a Silver Star Backbacker scooter/wheelchair lift. I am hoping for great things from it! I hope you really enjoy your power chair, Celia- -- In , Laureta Fitzgerald <lfitzger@j...> wrote: > Celia > > Thanks for the input. Guest guest
Dear Laurie, Well, I got the lift yesterday and am very pleased. It is not a crane type, but is a sort of platform that lowers to the ground and the WC is driven on, raised and then lifted in . It is all controled by a push button system. I did have to have the WC adjusted so that the back is able to flip down to fit into the van. Another type of lift we checked out was some kind of Bruno one and it required a boom of some kind. Apparently the new Caravans aren't quite as wide at the tail gate as the old ones, and we would have had to have some further adjustment of that kind of lift in order to use it. The one we got was cheapeer and was easier to install, Celia > >>>> Hi > >>>> > >>>> I went for my wheelchair evaluation. They felt that the best > > chair > >>> for me > >>>> was the Jazzy1170XL.
