Guest guest
Thank you Sandy, Janie and Betty, You have made me feel better about it all. Hi there neighbor in Saskatchewan,I am from Alberta. I really appreciate your support. The following is my experience, thus far. Symptoms that I suffer with were all there. I am now going to check further into this issue. I did not realize that this was such a prominent disease. The hair loss, the dental issues, sleep apnea and joint pain are all symptoms that I suffer with. Also being a premature menopausal woman taking Hormone Replacement since I was 30 is something that is now a major concern for me. Over the years, I have tried different methods of estrogen delivery i.e. the transdermal patch, injection and oral medication. I have come back to stay with the oral medication of Premarin -.625mg. With issues of dry skin and a lack of energy, I requested from my doctor to try taking Testorone. He did give this to me, I did feel a lot better taking it, but the doctor after about 6months said that because I do not have ovaries, I must stop taking the testorone as the possibility of breast cancer increases drastically. During this time I began gaining weight and thought it was just due to middle-age. I was wrong, because since the Hypo. diagnosis, I have lost that weight and am back to what I was. I had no energy and wanted to sleep all the time. My 75-year-old mother could walk faster than me. How did I come to be diagnosed with Hypothyroidism- Well it is probably a very classic way. I have been going to pain clinics for SI anti-inflammatory injections to reduce the pain in my Right Hip Joint, I have been sent to Chiropractors for back pain, neck pain, headaches. I was taking anti-anxiety medication for awhile then switched to sleeping pills. I began getting flu shots every year as it seems that I was a breeding ground for the flu. I have also had a Pneumonia Shot-the one that a person only needs once in their lives. I was and still do suffer with headaches and use Advil Liquid Gel caps to relieve the pain – these do work for me, but I sometimes think that it is just masking the real problem. It seems that I was being treated for all the symptoms of Hypothyroidism as separate illnesses. One day I went to the doctors because I could not swallow. There was a huge lump in my throat. A blood test was done, followed by an ultrasound done on my Thyroid showed that I have Hashimoto's Disease. I was finally diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease and a Goiter. I have been prescribed 0.10 mcg of Synthroid and have been taking them ever since. It took about six months for me to feel better and I did. However, now I feel like the synthroid is not having the same effect, or perhaps I felt so good that I was happy with it at the time. I can feel it if I forget to take this medication usually about two hours after the normal time I take it. The Advil also helps with my throat. I cannot stand wearing anything tight around my neck, like a turtleneck sweater. I know that there is still something not right, I am losing hair, it is very dry, but it does however grow back. Strange thing though, while taking testorone, the hair loss issue disappeared, so I am not sure if this is related to my hypothyroidism. I realize that this is a long story but I am wondering if any of this makes sense to others. This is the reason that I am looking for support. It has been just about three months since my last thyroid test and I will be asking for a copy of the test results for the next test. My doctor states that I need these blood tests every 3months. Thank you so much.
