Guest guest
hi, I don't want to put words in the districts mouths but I think she won't need spec ed does not mean that she won't get speech, ot and pt. those scores will show she still needs services. but don't get sooo ahead of yourself, take a day at a time. thats what I do or try to do. its hard but.... breath. your doing the best that you can and god bless. chris Bachman <susan3959@...> wrote: Hi All, I have posted a few questions in the past & everybody is so helpful, not to mention knowledgeable. I;ve read the Late Talker & The Out of Sync Child, spent hours on the Internet ( speechville etc.. ) I think I need help getting organized. My daughter has recently been diagnosed with verbal & oral dyspraxia, oral hypotonia, sensory integration disorder. The neuro also stated static encephalopathy in his eval. I adopted Callie 15 months ago from China, so her genetics are totally unknown. She has been in the EI program for 8 months, speech 2 & then upped to 3 x wk & she nows gets OT 2 x wk. She has been taking 1/2 tsp of proefa for 7 wks, I''ve seen so much progress, more verbal & a few new words ( bebe ( baby ) Hi & Dee ( the nickname of ehr nanny ) I imagine it's a combination of her theraopy She is now 28 months old, so she will be in the ei program for at least until Jan. 2005. I spoke w/ my ongoing coordinator, she said Callie's annual review will be in Sept. I asked her yesterday about what happens after in home therapy after the ei program. She said that Callie would been to be reevaluated in all areas & she said that she felt Callie would not qualify for spec. ed pre-school because of her cognitive skills seem age appropriate. Does that mean she will no longer get speech & OT & I will have to pay for it myself? I see many posts regarding problems with the IEP meetings, & haven't come across that so far. I am wondering shat I should be doing now to prepare for that in the future. I have not been keeping a form log of her words or her progress, should I be? I saw Karyn's post about taping, it sound like a great idea. Anyway, any help you can offer to help me better understand & be better prepared for what I may face in order to get her all the help she needs would be so appreciated. I feel like I'm spinning in circles, know I need to be doing something & don't know what & where to start. I am a single mom, my friends have been very supportive, but I'm on my own here. Guest guest
- It sounds like your doing just fine. Taping was a great idea, wish I had thought of that! We have kept a log of words that Josh adds to his vocabulary and I think that is a good idea. Since Callie doesn't appear to have too many words yet, starting one now would be good and you can add to it whenever a new word appears. Most important, keep all paperwork from the school concerning her educational programs, therapy reports, your letters or notes to the schools (we have kept the daily notebook that goes back and forth for the past three years since Josh started in developmental preschool in the public schools). Start a file and just drop all the paperwork in folders based on whatever system you find comfortable for you. We keep current paperwork in a briefcase, divided by month, so that when we need to go to school, we can just pick up the briefcase and go. When the year ends, we keep the last IEP in the briefcase (for comparison to where Josh is at, whether he's met the goals, etc., and to establish/compare to the new IEP), and clear out the rest into a big RubberMaid bin that contains all the older paperwork (also divided with folders by year and/or type of therapy). Just a thought, hope it helps. Sherry Bachman <susan3959@...> wrote: Hi All, I have posted a few questions in the past & everybody is so helpful, not to mention knowledgeable.
