I agree with all the advice you've gotten so far...we've used naltoxene with some good results, and we also use prozac which has helped somewhat with mood swings and anger...not 100% though. In addition to an o.t. eval., I'd also suggest consulting a behavior therapist/psychologist to help you develop a plan to deal with the aggressive and self-injurious behaviors. And be very, very, very consistent when following through. Our kids are very capable of learning what behaviors are acceptable and what are not, but it takes time, patience and consistency. It doesn't happen over night (we're still workin' on it!), but his and your life can vastly improve...he just needs to be shown how! Since he loves to snack (my guy too!) you have some powerful reinforcers in food, and I bet once he realizes he'll get treats if he does (or doesn't do) some behavior, he'll learn very quickly! I can relate to not learning in the public school system! Unfortunately our kids don't generally learn in groups, or by observation, and that's how schools are set up. In my case, I've become convinced it's what we do at home is what's going to make the difference...I think the best we can hope from school is maybe it'll give them the opportunity to generalize what they learn at home. Good luck, Eileen, Fl.

You're going to think I'm nuts, but have you heard of craniosacral therapy? Here is the web address of Upledger's presentation on autism and craniosacral therapy: <http://www.upledger.com/Clinic/autism.htm> Here is Upledger's web address: <http://www.upledger.com> Read this. Guest guest
, I just want to expound on craniosacral therapy. It is by no means a cure, but I believe it helps take care of the underlying or base problems. My son is 7.5 years old and has made more progress in the last two weeks (2 treatments) than he has in years. He is considered high fuctioning. All of his therapists and teachers have made comments about his rapid progress and I have asked them all to document. (I'm a stickler for documentation.) I believe all the other therapies are now benefitting him to the maximum. I agree with all the other postings and think this might help in addition to diet, vitamins, sensory inegration etc. As always write or post with any questions. Guest guest
<< This diet eliminates salicylates and everything artificial - colors, flavors, preservatives. >> This is exactly the way I think that I need to go with my son. I have noticed a huge difference in him just by eliminating juice with red coloring in it. I am getting the feingold info and going to start on it soon. Also, I think you are on target with going to an allergist. You may have other food allergies to deal with too...sounds like it if he is craving something...does he eat the same things all the time?
