I think IC can be very painful for many folks because I've heard from them that it is. For me, it's a mild annoyance. I think it's totally possible you could have it and not be aware.

Yes, it's true -- for some people, like you, IC may manifest more with frequency

than with pain. When i'm in better phases with my bladder problems, i also

just have a higher than normal number of trips to the bathroom with little or,

sometimes, no pain. But in acute phases, the pain can be absolutely

agonizing and totally debilitating, with constant peeing. You're fortunate

that your bladder symptoms are as mild as they are. . . .

,

I knew what you meant by when you said that they are

interconnected b/c you are right for some b/c they have more

than one condition are interconnected.

But mine (with the exception of endo and IC if I do have IC) are

not interconnected.

If I have symptoms of IC yes, I need to be checked for it b/c of

the fact that those same symptoms are also symptoms of endo on

the bladder (henceforth the evil twins). You can have not a lot

of symptoms of IC and still have it.

And the only way to check to see if I have it is to have a

cystoscopy.

And yes, I will eventually get the entire thyroid panel done.

Kristy :)

I had a period of a couple of weeks when I was in so much pain I couldn't do anything but sit by the toilet because I had to go every 10 min. I thought it was a bladder infection but tested negative for an infection.

Sure sounds like IC to me -- though i've never dealt with passing blood.

Sure is fun, huh? Fortunately, i haven't experienced a major flare-up for

quite a while now. . . . but even moderate bouts are no fun.

I have IC and most of the time I am not aware of it. Actually, my gyno saw blood in my urine twice and sent me to the urologist to check for IC and it turned out I did have it. And, by the look of the pictures they took during the testing one side of my bladder was very bloody. But, honestly I wasn't aware I had a bladder problem at all. Once I was diagnosed I became more tuned into the bladder problem and would notice some pain when I would eat spicy foods or drink coffee and tea. I also noticed I did have an increased frequency of urination..... I've been drinking a lot of lattes and eating spicy food again lately and I noticed the other night I must have gone to the bathroom 10 times while out at the nightclub where I was performing. One of the guys actually said to me, "You're going again?" as I headed to the bathroom... but I didn't really feel pain, just the need to go. So...

Re: PCOS & more / Kristy

Kristy, when I said interconnected, I simply meant that somehow these conditions have got to have some kind of common thread! So many of us don't just have ONE condition, we have several and it's the same ones, just different combinations! Like for me it's been Endo, IC, Vulvodynia... plus, Hollis helped me understand that going by the NEW AACE guidelines I should be treated for Hypothyroidism too. I didn't catch your post to ... so when you say you are going to have the panel done, do you mean for your thyroid?

Honestly, if you do not develop any symptoms of IC, then you probably won't even need to check into it! IC is NOT dormant by any means... it's very active and and very painful. But, if on the other hand you notice more pain in your bladder in the future it definitely would be wise to check into it! I hope for your sake you never end up with it though.... ;0)

I might have had one of those acute phases once but I don't really know. I was diagnosed with IC about 3 years ago and many years before that... probably 8 years ago... I had a period of a couple of weeks when I was in so much pain I couldn't do anything but sit by the toilet because I had to go every 10 min. I thought it was a bladder infection but tested negative for an infection. I remember peeing what looked very much like blood clots to me and it completely freaked me out. But, after that those symptoms eventually went away and never came back. Since that was so many years before I was diagnosed with IC I couldn't say what caused it or if the two were related but it occured to me it could have been IC. If that's what the acute IC feels like, I definitely feel your pain because that is the most painful thing I've ever experienced.
