Guest guest
Hi- I have never been on a yahoo group let alone any kind of group. I saw that there was groups available with people who have vestibulitis. I have always had pain and have never enjoyed any type of sexual play b/c of the pain I have always had. I always thought that it was in my head and that the reason why i never enjoyed sex was b/c i came from a very strict household that taught me never to have premarital sex. Anyways, I got married over a year ago and I have not been able to have sex yet b/c of the pain. I went to the doctor and was diagnosed. For a year I was trying different meds- desipramine, lidocaine, neurotonin, the no oaxolate diet and nothing has worked. Last month I had surgery. I am not sure if i am healed yet, but I am hoping. The only thing my doctor has prescribed now is the kegal exercises. The surgery itself was not bad. I hope i will get better from this, as I don't know what else to do if not. Has anyone experienced a sucess story from a vestibulectomy?
Guest guest
Hi, I had a vestibulectomy in August. The pain isn't gone completely (I had pain all the time, not jsut during sex), but I experienced a dramatic reduction. Upwards of 50%. It took a good three months before I could really gauge it. Around 2 months it seemed to level off, and I panicked bc the pain was still pretty bad... I freaked. But after the 3 months mark it was more bearable. Good luck! I tried everything under the sun (12 prescriptions in a year), and the vestibulectomy was the best thing I could have ever done. It's the only thing that worked, and it worked very well! > > > Hi- I have never been on a yahoo group let alone any kind of group. Guest guest
Hang in there! I had a vestibulectomy and it was a big help. My pain was both contact and non-contact, so for me, I needed elavil for non-contact pain and surgery for contact pain. Elavil alone made me feel a lot better, but sex still hurt and surgery made it pleasurable again. My major advice is patience!!! Docs talk about 6 weeks to recovery after surgery and for me that just wasn't true. It took months. I'm not sure about doing kegels when you're recovering... For me, I needed to leave that whole area alone as musch as possible. I wore no underwear at home, took cool sitz baths... Just really tried to let it heal. Also, I should tell you that I thought my surgery was a total failure at 6 months, and when I went back for my check-up, my muscles where in major spasm. I had no pain on the q- tip test (it had always been terrible) and bad pain when muscles were palpated. So I really needed pt at that point. It made a huge difference. Docs are divided on whether or not you need dilators post surgery. I didn't use them, but in retrospect, it might have been a good idea. I think that it took a while for the skin there to stretch and feel normal again. Small dilators might have been better than jumping to sex. So... Patience. Take care of yourself. If you need to sit a lot for work, get a donut or waffle cushion. Say you have a back problem, if you're not comfortable sharing. I think that's a white lie that's OK. This is such an intimate problem, i just wasn't comfortable talking about it with casual acquaintances. Lia > > > Hi- I have never been on a yahoo group let alone any kind of group. Guest guest
Have you tried PT? I have had almost the exact same symptons as you described in addition to painful tampon insertion and speculums. I've been doing PT for PFD for about 7 months and have experienced a lot of improvement. Just a thought... __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Not yet. When I talked to him at the 2 month mark, he said there were more invasive procedures available. At that point I was pretty upset and just needed to hear that I wasn't at the end of the line. But he did say that some people take 3 months to heal, and I was definitely among those people..... My next follow-up is at the 4-month mark, early January, so I guess that's when I'll know more. After all the useless doctors and prescriptions, I am just so thankful to finally be getting some relief! Good luck. I understand that not every treatment is right for everyone. I had the surgery after 9 doctors and a dozen prescriptions, so I went into it confident it was the right decision. The surgery itself wasn't bad either. I would strongly recommend it to anyone who has had unsuccessful results with a reasonable amount of amternatives. ystanwix wrote: Because you are not 100% better yet has the doctor recommended anything else? > >> > > > Hi- I have never been on a yahoo group let alone any kind of > group. Guest guest
I think I could have done pt at about 3 months post op. The pt did internal work to release certain muscles (the obdurators were and are my problem area) and she gives you exercises to do at home. Some pts give you a " wand " to use internally, but if you're not comfortable with that there are lots of exercises that don't require internal work. I think flinching against pain causes pelvic muscle problems over time. In my case, I also am very weak in the surrounding muscle groups (abs, etc.) so my pt thinks my pelvic muscles are doing work they're not really supposed to do. So I have to work on strengthening some muscles and releasing others. I highly recommend getting an evaluation with someone truly knowledgeable to see what issues you may have. Good Luck!
