Hi -

doctor is 9 hours away. We've been traveling on a plane to his

appointments since he was 9 weeks old and in the DBB. We've had no problem

putting it in our diaper bag to take on the plane when he went down to

nighttime wear. They will ask to look in your bag, but they don't even take

it out or ask any questions about it. I'm sure they have strict lines about

not discriminitating about orthopedic devices.

Have a safe flight!

You could always ask for a note from your doctor stating that your

child needs to wear it daily, so that they have to allow you to bring

it. I wouldn't think you'd have any problems, but in this day

of " super safety " , I think you might want to have the doctor's note

with you just in case you happen to get a security person who is a

bit over the top. A person using a metal cane would also have a

potential weapon, but I would imagine that they're allowing them on

board! :)

Good luck,

One more thought- some parents just put the brace on the baby when

going through airport security, so that it's not in your carry-on

bag, but on the child. I'm not sure how old is, but this might

be an option for you if he's not walking much yet.

I'm sure you'll get advice from some who've actually traveled by air,

but I'm sure that if they see it in your carry-on and it's attached

to shoes they'll let you through. I know when I went to the

courthouse a while back they questioned what it was when they saw it

on the x-ray machine, but once I took it out of the bag and showed

them it wasn't a problem. Hope this helps a little.

I too don't like to check the FAB, in case luggage is lost. So I

always carry it on. We've flown quite a few times with it, and never

had a problem, until a recent trip, which was right after the war in

Iraq had begun and the security level was higher than usual.

When it's been in a bag, it has never been any problem. This time,

though, my daughter was wearing it (because it was still very early

in the morning and I wanted her to wear it a while on the plane). As

we were ready to go through the metal detectors, the security

officers asked me to stop and take it off. I had to squat down on the

floor to undo the laces while the long line was held up behind me.

They said it needed to be off, because it, of course, would set off

the metal detector and then they'd have to search us. I put it in a

bin that they sent through X ray. We walked through, and the metal

detector went off anyway. (Turns out it was someting in my shoes.)

Anyway, they then proceeded to 'wand' me and in the security

area off to one side.

It was an odd sight, seeing a little 2 year old girl standing with

her arms out to one side, facing a wall, having a metal detector

waved over her!

So I guess my recommendation is.. that if you pack the FAB in your

carry-on you shouldn't have any trouble.

Have a good trip!

We traveled about two months ago from Cedar Rapids to Chicago to

London to Helsinki to Oulu by plane, and went through several

security checks. I carried the DBB literally in my hands so that it

wouldn't get lost, and the security personnel didn't pay any

attention to it in any of the airports we went. We had some funny

situations too in our journey, the first one being in CR where my

carry on luggage was searched at one point, and when I got it back

and walked about three metres, another officer wanted to search it

again. And for some reason me, an innoncent-looking mommy, was the

one that was always randomly searched. In London Heathrow they found

baby nail clippers in my purse, and they said that I could take them

in the plane IF I promised not to use them in there!!! Of course I

promised.. I wonder if they'd have let me take a knife in the plane

had I promised not to use it..:)
