Solvay to defend drug Estratest in talks with FDA

BRUSSELS, April 29 (Reuters) - Belgian chemicals and drugs company

Solvay <SOLBt.BR> said on Tuesday it will defend the effectiveness of its

Estratest drug

with the U.S. health authorities and discuss new applications for the

hormone therapy.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) earlier this month

questioned the effectiveness of a combination hormone therapy for

treating hot flushes in women and said unapproved uses, such as

restoring sex drive, must also be proven.
