Guest guest
Since being off my levothroid and cytomel and starting the generic armour (1 grain) I've had a nagging headache. What's even more disturbing is I just don't feel like myself at all. Tired, kind of detached feeling; is this at all normal? Has anyone else had a bad experience switching to natural thyroid? I'm only on my second day and am not sure what to do. Thanks, Carla
Guest guest
Hi there Carla, How much levothroid and Cytomel were you using? I myself used Levoxyl and Cytomel but ended up using almost 3 times the amount more of Armour. 1 grain is quite a low dose. If you were using a very little amount of T3 before your switch, then the headache might come from the sudden change to a higher amount. Please let me know! Take care, Margreet. > Since being off my levothroid and cytomel and starting the generic armour > (1 grain) I've had a nagging headache. Guest guest
Hi Margreet, I was taking 100 mcg levothroid and 5 mcg cytomel twice a day. I was off both for a week and was taking NutriMeds thyroid and only 1 tablet a day at that. I felt terrible by the time I started taking my generic Armour and by the third day I went from 1 grain to 2 grains and was just starting to feel a little better. I'm now at 2 1/2 grains on day 6 and I know it's still not enough. I know everyone here has said to do it slowly, but my hypo symptoms are awful on a low dose. I would bet I'll end up taking anywhere from 3 to 5 grains when this is all said and done. My main problem since starting natural thyroid has been headache and neck/shoulder pain, but it's getting better. I know it's going to take a while to heal and I know I have to be careful not to take too much too soon. Overall, I feel good about switching to natural and think I will do better than I have for the last 10 years. Carla -- Re: Normal or Not? Guest guest
Ooohhh Carla, now I understand much better why you are feeling the way you do! I guess your body went through quite a few schock'n changes...... It would have been better to replace the Cytomel with half a grain of Armour, and two weeks later, add another half of Armour while at the same time going down with the levothroid. To stop taking meds for one week makes matters worse! Anyway, you now have to go from where you are at this point, and you can't risk getting too hypo also. It is an advantage that your body is already used to T3 a little, so I hope you won't get too much of a shock. May I give you some advise to back down with the Armour a little and add back some levoxyl? This way you can switch more gradual. For example, 1 and a half grain and 50 mcg levothroid. You might end up hypo with this dose in the long run, but within 3 or 4 weeks, you can make another smaller change. Please, go slow! And yes, finally ...... you will do so much better once your'e settled! It's worth it going through the struggles now!
